We do have a Jennifer Martindale from England who's blog is included here regularly.  I suspect we haven't heard from her because her email account has been hacked.  (The same thing happened to me last year and it took a while to get things cleared up.  I was supposedly in London, mugged, still having a passport but no money.  No way would thieves leave a passport alone as they are worth big money on the illegal market.)  There is no way someone would be held hostage like that without intervention from an embassy.  That is paramount to an international incident.  It's a hoax.

Jennifer Martindale is a long-standing member of Baren. She has been hacked like other Bareners recently.

Maria,
I don't have a web page or a blog. For those who do I think the link
idea is a good one.

I just got exchange 49, my first reaction is, whoa how nice. She
packaged it in cardboard with my name in fancy writing on the front,
how sweet. Just cut open the tape, oh boy, oh boy, now is the special
moment. Ohh how nice. She did a special job of packing and what a
lovely cover right up front, wow. They are wonderful, spectacular and
each is very special. You guys make me feel like an amateur your work
is sooooo GOOD. Thank you one and all, especially our wonderful
coordinator. Baren is indeed creating some beautiful work. It is a
privilege to be in exchanges with you guys.

Oh, Maria, My bunny arrived this afternoon! Perhaps you should
have used an envelope! The poor guy arrived all disassembled
and with his parts put back in unusual places! But he was still
keeping an eye out! ;-)

What a fun thing to do with a critter! It's a lovely wood
engraving, and arrived in great condition! Thank you, Maria!

I am curious now- do you have a photo of the bunny that you can share?

Your darling deconstructed bunny came plunking into my house today. Thank
you. I love him almost as much as my bunny but family does take preference.
Keep up the good work Maria. Thank you, Bea Gold

I GOT MY PACKAGE TODAY!!!

Thank you, thank you. Wonderful art. My first exchange and I am so
very happy looking at the variety of voices.

I hope I'm sending this to the right place because when I click on the
reply button, I get a web page that doesn't load. Help.

Thanks again everyone. Love the work. Exchange #50 is gonna be
dynamite too.

Best,

Subject: Mini-Print Exchange #50
Posted by: Ellen Shipley

Here's the block for the mini-print exchange #50.  We'll be doing a whopping 100 prints to exchange!  What a collection.  8-]  High time I get going on it.

This is another paleo-dragonfly in my Paleo Mythos series.  The original of this design is an acid etching:

It's a black & white intaglio print with watercolor accents, approx. 3"x5".

Paleo-dragonfly II will be a woodcut, 2.5"x3.5".  I'm still dithering on color(s).

Carving, carving.  Itty bitty has its challenges.

It's been "that" kind of a year, this 2011. I find myself finishing projects late, chucking others off my to do list altogether and just generally feeling out of control.
Contrary to popular belief, I am not a control freak; that would imply I wish to control others around me. No no no...I just enjoy being under control, like...myself and my life. Unless I'm skiing downhill of course, but that's another matter.

So the Chinese Lunar New Year starts in February, yeah, like LAST February and every year I make a promise to some 50-70 printmakers all over the world that I will send them a Year of the- post card (http://barenforum.org). We all make that promise to each other. Quite fun to receive these all year long with postage from everywhere, some in envelopes, some in baggies, some just so.

My post-cards went out last week, naked as a jaybird this year but surely they will make it "there" safely, won't they? Surely. It's been that kind of a year...

In any case, here is my Chinese Lunar New Year representation of this crazy rabbit year. Officially crossed off my to do list.

Subject: Printing Again

Prionus Californicus keyblock proof

I still don't have a dedicated work space.....I'm working out of a spare bedroom...but I got my keyblock carved and I was I was itching to print again. I found a small jar into which I had thrown a broken up sumi stick in December? so I poured off the surface water and it seemed good to go after a good stirring.

Turns out Arborio rice will work for rice paste and the kitchen table, once the kids are in school, will too.

I dashed off 6 copies of my keyblock for my small bug print. This is the hanshita, it is printed off the keyblock including the kento marks and will be pasted face down, one for each color.
So far it has two 2.5" X 3.5" prints on it printing side by side...
it will have color blocks too and I'm trying now to figure out how to combine the colors to get both printed simultaneously.

Due date for 100 prints is Nov 1.
I'll need to go back in and open up the "O" of "prionus" and the second set of legs are too long but I think I'll leave that alone.
