I'm going to write a scholarship project for me to improve my skills,
experience and knowledge due to woodblock printing stuff, especially
japanese. I'm turning to you bareners, who has an experience in this area.

Could you possibly point some directions and places where I could go for a
visit to enhance my skills in connection with my prospect project?

Regards.
Olek.

Not sure how many bareners got a chance to see the Eric Gill (1882-1940)
exhibition down at the LUMA Museum or Art in Chicago......regardless what
you think of the man's personal life and all the controversy he brought to
the art world his prints and other typographical work is worth a serious
look for anyone in the printmaking field.

I just made it downtown on the very last day of the exhibit and found
myself (and Maria) alone for a few hours with over 100 of his prints and
over a dozen carved woodblocks. Photos were taken so I'll try to get them
up on the baren blog asap.....

I also got to see some captivating b&w photography by chinese photographer
Lu Nan on the underground catholic movement in China.

For more info on the Gill exhibit (which is now closed, sorry you will
have to go to the University of San Francisco to see it)

Joel has shared photos with you.
I hadn't done any lino block printing since the 1970's....but was
motivated to create an image that heralded our new grandson's
arrival...Joshua...in Hebrew, Yahoshuah. I'm interested in Japanese
fish printing and wood block printing. Joel Axelrod, San Marino, CA

Where do you live? I know places in Atlanta where you could study
printmaking but you might have a local studio that is the best fit for you.

thanx a lot guys!
I live in Poland/Europe, but I'm going to write a research project, wchich
includes some artistic journeys to explore places and techniques. I have a
studio, and I've read every book I could find about moku hanga, but I still
want to learn something, especially because I'm a bit alienated here.
Its nothing sure for now according to my project. Im just gathering
informations for now.

Subject: [Baren 43314] how to glue two papers?
Send Message: To this poster

Im printing some large pieces - larger than standart size of paper
so - the problem is:
How to glue two japanese papers together?
Is it ok for mokuhanga techniques?
what kind of glue should I use to get best effect. I used water based glue
for the wood (its called "wikol" here), Its ok, but Its not as flexible as a
paper when its dry, and the impression in that point looks bit different.

Any solutions, traditional or creative?

thanx in advance
regards
Olek
