The web signup page is ready to go, info is here
http://www.barenforum.org/fundraiser_project/index.html

So, we look to have about 60 participants when we are done...we have 60
portfolios and 30x60 or 1800 prints
I originally wanted to sell the sets as complete...but it might be easier to
sell them as individual prints
This is a hard decision. Should we put fewer pieces in the portfolios and sell
the extra prints? Say 60 portfolios of 10 pieces and if so what criteria do we
use to choose? One that is all moku hanga?

ACTION ITEM: Lets have some discussion on this...

I have visited with the Japanese Garden people and although they want to support
this they really have no place to show the work, so I am searching for a venue.
They will advertise it and promote it in their advertising and we can give away
coupons for the garden at the exhibition as an enticement to get folks involved.
I have also contacted the Japanese American Society. The Gardens said they are
overwhelmed with folks wanting them to support things but they like our project
so that is good.

We are going to need some major publicity on this, is there anyone on the list
who has those skills?
Anyone who can do a simple brochure for us as a sales tool and memento of the
exhibition? Anyone who knows a really inexpensive printer who will print them?
What else do we need?
My own exhibit that I do every two years opens next Wednesday so I am
understandably distracted but don't want to drop the ball on this...

lets have some discussion and decisions on how to proceed
My best to all
Barbara

How about an online auction using Facebook to promote it? Seems like social networking is the way to go these days. Handmade for Japan at http://www.facebook.com/#!/handmadeforjapanauction pulled in over 75 thousand dollars doing this!

Hi Barbara...

I keep sending messages, several since last weekend, and find I'm still not
signed up for the project. I have sent another one to your email per the
sign-up sheet but am also sending one here (again), hoping to be included. I'm
beginning to think my email is blocked for some reason.

Could you please add me. I truly want to participate. I am also willing to
help any way I can.

Hi Diane..no problem I'l add you to the list but i can't do it till
tonight.......

Also there is a new updated page for the 2011 San Antonio Summit, please
check it out on barenforum.org. For those that missed Summit 1 in KC, or
Summit 2 in Vancouver.... this will be a great opportunity to meet , share
and learn from your fellow bareners. Le Green is setting a bunch of
activities & exhibits and there are special hotel rates available for our
group. You should not miss this opportunity !!!!!

thanks......Julio

Hi all,

Baren already has a group on Facebook that Mike Lyon created a while back,
so certainly we can do something like what's described.....an online
auction..but we would need to have prints ready to do that. right ?

A couple of thoughts to possibly kick around.......

- I think it's critical to the success of the project that we get going
NOW getting "subscribers" for the portfolios/prints.Get people to commit
now, purchase later. If we wait till the prints are collated in
June/July the buzz to help out may have diminish or have been taken
entirely over by some other event. So we (the participants/baren members)
need to go out and "sell" this thing.....to corporations, schools,
libraries, family and friends, etc......

- How to split the prints and portfolios ? Assuming 60 portfolios total,
two versions of 30 prints each ? remembering that this is a fundraiser,
what's a reasonable price per portfolio ? A small discount if you purchase
both ? Should we set apart a number of portfolios for selling individual
prints ?

Also since we are a not-for-profit group how does that play into
donations, etc ?????

Julio

I'm not on the list yet, either, though I've said "yes" twice. I'm still
willing!

Julio,
Since the end receiver of the money will be Mercy Corps I think there will be no
problem with people taking a donation, but they have to deduct the actual value
of the prints since they received goods, so if we value them at say $10 but
charge $50 then they get $40 as a donation. I agree we need to presell it.
My best

Good going Barbara! The signup and info' page looks great
and 31 prints is a reasonable number for each participant to
turn out. I just finished hanging my exhibition today and am
attaching the poster/invitation (hope that's okay) for
people to see who're not on Facebook as I know there are
some Bareners in or around Toronto it would be interesting
to meet so please try and come by- thanks for all the nice
remarks and good wishes on Facebook - never wish you were
closer to here - it's still Winter!
Louise

BTW the Japan Foundation, Toronto has organized a host of
fund-raising events - I wonder if they'd be interested in
the print project??
