My oxen are en route. If anyone on the list does not receive in a reasonable
amount of time, please let me know.

Apologies for the tardiness.

Tigers are already drawn, key block is cut. As someone else said, tigers run
much faster so hopefully mine will be going out end of February.

Maria

Here is info off the internet...the lower the number the lighter or less tacky the oil...flash oil is even lighter in tack. So a 00 is pretty tackless and a 5 is like varnish... more like litho ink than etching ink
It makes the ink looser
My best
Barbara

The most common modifier for etching inks, Burnt Plate Oils are made by slowly heating pure linseed oil for varying periods of time, depending on the desired body. (The longer it's heated, the more the oil thickens.) The Light Oil 00 is useful for reducing the tack of inks; it is quit thin in body. The Mid Oil 3 is a medium-bodied oil and has greater adhesion than the 00. It can be added to inks to increase adhesion, particularly when broken traces are experienced in printing.

Continued from [Seacoast in Spring - 2] | Starting point of the thread is [Seacoast in Spring - 1]

Steadily chewing away at this block for the past few days ... It's the 'key', such as it is; really just the darkest of the blacks. The only place that there is a specific 'outline' is on the body of the fish.

Subject: Oxen plowing a year late but plowing nonetheless
Posted by: Maria

Well, here it is, a year late but sometimes the oxen run into troubles...

I dedicated this print to those who taught us to keep the plow in the ground no matter what life brings. After all, the fields can't wait and the harvest won't come if we don't keep working. So here it is, a little woodblock print in the Japanese tradition; must say I enjoy the change in process.

Aside from that, I wanted to do something to benefit Haiti and decided to use my ebay store to do just that. So from now until the end of February, maybe longer, who knows! I will donate pretty much all my profit from auction sales on ebay. The donation happens automatically when a purchase is made and it makes me happy to know that my art is being used for the good of all those poor people.

Two more prints already on the bench, an engraving and a puzzle collaboration print. It feels good to be back in the studio and this year I vow to keep the plow in the ground.

Subject: Ahhh, Paste Paper!
Posted by: Lynn

Today, Randy Keenan and I conducted what the Books Arts Roundtable calls a Drop-in on Paste Paper. We both brought examples and Randy's were beyond awesome!! After a demonstration period we turned the participants loose. There was controlled chaos for four hours and at the end there was a mountain of paste paper to be taken home

Randy brought her ready made wallpaper paste and I mixed up a variety of homemade recipes for experimentation by the group. I told the participants to make notes so they could learn from their experiments but I forgot once again to do that myself. Oh, well, I'll have to experiment some more!!

Randy used contact paper as a stencil resist and it came out perfectly but I didn't manage to photograph that.

I learned from . . .
