In the light of recent posts on 20th Century woodblocks, Calendars.com have
40% off most of their 2010 calendars, today only.

There is a nice Arts and Crafts calendar which has woodblock prints by
William S. Rice available.

Here's the link:

http://www.calendars.com/Asian-Art/William-S.-Rice-Arts-and-Crafts-Block-Pri
nts-2010-Wall-Calendar/prod124004/?categoryId=cat00004

It's a long link, so you may have to copy and paste it if it's broken onto 2
lines.

With the 40% off it costs just over $8.

Cheers, Mark.

Further extending the 20th Century connections....

The Chicago Art Institute is hosting a lovely exhibition,
'Apostles of Beauty, Arts and Crafts from Britain to Chicago'.
You may be especially interested in William Morris' incredible
woodblock printed fabric panels "Cray", which used 34 separate
blocks!

You'll enjoy the on-line presentations of this exhibition, and
the excellent video by the curator:

Best wishes from snowy Chicago,

I feel useful again...the message below is written in Catalan, a dialect
spoken in the Catalonian region of Spain, where I grew up.

Loose TRANSLATION:

"Friends I am sending the following in case you are interested in the
subject of Japanese printmaking which is the focus of the exhibition in the
Picasso Museum in Barcelona: "Secret images, influence of erotic Japanese
prints in Picasso engravings" a program of the municipal school of art in
Girona.

You can also visit the website La Merce www.girona.cat/ccm.on to find
information about the municipal school of art.
I hope you find this interesting.
Fins aviat (don’t know what this means, but I like it)
Sebi"

This link dropped into my Inbox this morning:

Looks like rolled-on oil pigments I guess, with a lot of reduction
work in there too.

Subject: [Baren 40392] Linoleum
Send Message: To this poster

I have the opportunity to get some linoleum for free. It is Johnsonite
Linoleum Flooring. Can anyone tell me if this will work the same as the
typical linoleum you can buy through the art stores? It is a little thinner
than some of the other types I have seen and he surface seems to have a bit
more shine. I tried to cut it with some gouges and it seemed to cut pretty
cleanly. Are there any issues with inks that anyone has experienced when
using various linoleum products?

Thanks, Robert
