Bobbi,

Did you stir the ink well? I know it sounds simple but it seperates when it sits so stirring a lot is required. The transparent base may also need to be stirred very well in order to mix it with the inks. I find that some of the colors are a bit runny too. I'm not sure if some are old and new versions but some colors tend to have different textures. If you are looking for a thicker ink I have mixed it with their oil converter and it makes a very nice rich ink.

They do take a long time to dry. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this as well, but they have a chalky finish that seems to remain. It doesn't smear but when I touch older prints some color transfers to my finger. I did notice that same effect a print done with another brand of water clean up ink that I got in a print exchange. This effect does not seem to be the case with the Akua Kolor.

There is a long learning curve and at times I have almost given up too. But you can email Susan Rostow with questions and she is good about getting back to you.

Hi Kris,

No, it's not rolling very well. It's like rolling watercolors. They
do have a Transparent Base. I got a jar of that and black and brown
intaglio inks.

Here tis:

I will admit I didn't mix the base...but will try that. It really is
very thick.

Not giving up yet, although the long drying time is a surprise. That
never occurred to me since it says it's water-based.

Uh......maybe I didn't stir them quite well enough. LOL.

Wish I'd known about the converter.

Interesting. I've never noticed that with other inks I've used, but
I haven't really messed with them much.

That's good to know. I know the inks have a good reputation, but I
guess I assumed they'd be more "user-friendly" without a lot of
messing around.

Thanks to everyone for the advice/help!

Hi,

I find reduction printing fits me. Thing is I am not a good pre
planner. When I do reduction I can carve away, print and carve away
again, it suits my style. I have a horrid time preplanning blocks to
do multi block printing. My mind simply does not work that way. The
best thing about this that I can say is what my print making prof said
at the beginning of the year, there are those who pre plan and those
who just go with what happens working with it as it happens. The best
part of what he said is that neither way is right or wrong it is just
different. Every mind is unique and every approach is individual, you
have to find what works best for you. I usually have a very hard time
with multi block and a much easier time with reduction. For some that
is backwards. Try both and see.

If you look at the exchange list it states that the next exchange is
supposed to be technique, not theme.
