There is an interesting international print exhibition going on in Bristol UK which I went to see yesterday. Lower down the road, in easy walking distance, is the Bristol City show by the graffiti artist known as Banksy. The queue for that is backed up 3 streets away and takes 3 - 4 hours to stand and wait, whereas about 10 of us strolled round the Royal West Of England Gallery. Dave quoted AA Milne asking basically What is an artist for? or rather what is their social worth. I find it impossible to answer, as the only justification I find for making art is the pleasure/challenge/sense of purpose etc it gives me. I am purely selfish about it even though I do want to share and give pleasure to onlookers with the finished product.
So do the queues at one show demonstrate more worth than the other? I think not, but cannot justify that answer either!

Another possibility for the block: a Przewalski foal. They're so knobby-kneed and gangly. ;-]

Going through my finished work looking for pictures to display at the local Art Club show, I wondered about this question of personal style. We are told to find one but can we see if it is there, and does it matter?
First print is in Bristol 'The North - Slowly Waking from Deep Sleep' Chinese artist Yu Chengyou. woodblock print using oil based inks 66.7 x 80.1 cm
The second is one of mine going on show locally.

Anyone near Bristol (UK) should see the Royal West of England International Print Exhibition, it is great and no queues, unlike the Banksy show just down the hill!
