May I send Maria in Las Vegas some humidity??? I am having a tiny
paper crisis. I dampened as usual and left it overnight as always and
it is printing too damp. The paper is just too damp!!!!! I don't know
how high the humidity is, but I can say you can sit still and sweat in
it. The solution is to set the paper out in the open to dry out a
bit, hopefully soon so I can finish for today. I even took one piece
and waved it around in the air to dry it, the exact opposite of Maria
who had paper drying before she got it on her block. I am wishing for
my studio in the pacific northwest, where I think the humidity is a
delight to work in. Here, in the Baja we are having a hotter than
normal January and it is abnormally humid. I am not used to dealing
with this stuff. How do those who live in high humidity areas dampen
their paper??? It would help for my next batch.

Subject: Open studio - Andy English July 2008
Posted by: Julio

Here is a visit to the studio of one of my favorite printmakers; Andy English. Andy has been a frequent contributor to the Baren exchanges during the last ten years and I just love his beautiful engravings.

Subject: Doi-san's book published!
Posted by: Dave Bull

I received a package from friend and collector Mr. Toshikazu Doi this afternoon - a very heavy package. It was a copy of the new book that he has just published, introducing the work of the shin-hanga designer Tsuchiya Koitsu.

It's a staggering achievement ... 400 plus pages, a bajillion full-colour images of Koitsu's entire output, and a wealth of information on his life and the publishers who issued all these prints, back in the first half of the 20th century.

Doi-san worked together with Ross Walker (website) for many years to put this together, and their efforts have finally turned into reality.

If you would like to know more about the book, or to order a copy, please write to Doi-san here. (He can understand English with no problem ...)

Congratulations to them on their new 'baby' - I hope they still have enough energy left for their next project!
