Andrew, thanks for those links. Nice to hear some news of Andrea
Rich. I noticed her work when I first logged in to Baren Forum and
had lost track of her, so it was great to visit her site and see her
latest work.
Summit 2010 in the desert??? Sounds fantastic! I really hope I'll be
able to be there when the time comes -- hard to know so far in
advance -- but I'm with Diane. I'd LOVE to watch some of you folks at
work and the setting looks totally inspirational.

I took the survey too and can't wait to get back to a summit. It was just so energizing.
The area looks interesting, and if we don't go when it's an oven, it should be great.

Annie, your print of the Mayflower is crisp and shows a good job of
carving. Do you have a bokashi printed on the paper first, or are we
just looking at the shadowing on the paper that often happens when we
take a photo of our artwork? If it's not one, it would look good with
one.

Thanks Carol, plenty of lifetime left for both of us.
Some of you have mentioned that 2010 is a long time to wait. True, so true,
but early 2009 is not doable, just too much to get ready in too short a time
and the Red Barn is booked with exhibits. The summers in the desert can
climb to 115 degrees F, just not fit for human consumption even if you're
used to it (although believe me I would love to expose some Easteners to our
"yeah-but-it's-a-dry-heat" just to show that 115 is 115 and will squash the
life out of you, wet or dry). Anyway, we don’t "really" want to kill anyone.
Then comes our lovely fall...ooops, and there it went! We missed it again.
Our "fall" consists of 105+ degrees in September, "cooling" to 90s in
October (we hope) and finally a 60 mph wind drops the temps to balmy 70's
for a week, two if we're lucky, just before 50 mph winds drop it again to
50-60 in November. And as much as I would love to hold the Summit November
2009, that is prime holiday time and we can't even get an exchange in on
time during the pre-holiday-holidays...hint38 hint38...
So, there you have it, the long (yawn) explanation behind the 2010 potential
date. Looks like most people are choosing February 2010, but still need more
surveys. So, if you missed the last email, here it is again:

major travel route from Las Vegas to Reno, our biggest two cities AND one of
the gateways to Death Valley National Park.

Subject: Book Exchange

I've been doing a lot of work lately with a wonderful group of creative artists called The Book Arts Roundtable based at the Baird in South Orange, NJ. One of the things they do is to have a book exchange twice a year. Everyone brings a book in a brown paper bag and puts it on the table and then we draw numbers and choose a bag to determine what book we go home with. Each person shows the book they received to the group and the bookmaker gets to briefly describe their process. This was only my second time doing this and I haven't really found my "voice" bookwise but I felt pretty good about this effort. 
I have a Martha Stewart device which does pretty well on paper but the board was too much for it. I enjoyed doing the Coptic process once I had the concept in my mind. I wasn't happy with the floppiness of the binding so I added some little straps cut along design areas of the paper and glued them on which worked pretty well.
