Shane,
I have a metal cabinet I got at a yard sale...
But the best thing is to use so little flammable stuff
that you don't need it. I admit that mine is half
full, but I rarely use any of it. I was a printmaker
for many years before I saw the light and started
using all non toxic stuff. Seems non toxic is usually
non flammable.
Not much is flammable with moku hanga, except wood and
paper. It has a pretty low combustible history by
itself. :~)
My best to all

Many thanks to Carole Baker for coordinating Exchange 36. My prints came last Saturday, hardly late
at all compared to many of the previous exchanges. Well done, Carole!

Flammables are wonderfully stored in a LIDDED metal trash can. I use a small
one. I used to have a diaper pail -- the seals on those are TIGHT.

Around the San Francisco Bay Area we tend to use "nontoxic" clean up
materials. A most wonderful method that I see around is using regular cooking oil as
the first cleanup solvent. Oil does go better with oil. Keeping a dispenser
that squirts, kinda like the plastic mustard/ketchup bottles, works wonders. It
smears, then lifts up the ink off rollup, roller, and hands. Remember, dispense
of the oily rag/newspaper/paper towel into that metal container!

AFTER that, perhaps using a grease cutter such as "Simple Green" is a good
idea. That product smells strong but apparently is quite harmless. At any
rate, it cuts what is left of the grease.

I also use synthetic turps (which is really a high quality level of mineral
spirits). As a painter, I allow each day's dirty turp settle in a jar (on the
ground to avoid quake induced fires) and then reuse and reuse and reuse. It
takes me literally years to go through a gallon. And I work big and daily!

Great question, by the way.

Hi there:

Try military surplus ammo cans. They are well built,
liquid and air tight and the lid locks down with
leverage clamps. I suggest 20mm ammo and 50 cal.
cans. About 3-8$ at army-navy stores, gun shops or
farm supply stores. If you don't have any in your
area let me know and I'll send you a link to an
on-line surplus supply.

When I served, way back, all flammables, such as
lighter fluid, shoe polish and rags, were required to
stored in these cans, in barracks. I have used these
to store all sorts of flammables including gasoline
and acetone and still do.

Cheers

Dear María: I already found the puzzle. It looks great. I told my fellow artists about you and they think the idea very interesting. We want to try a small one 1.20 X 50 centimeters maybe with 4 to 6 participants. We will give you credit for the idea and distribute your page for them to see the process and the documentation. If we do it, it will be for September I will let you know. What is the printmaking name or label for this process?

If you need more people for the exchange I can do a double exchange. Please let me know.
Thank you congratulations for the project it is great you did it.

Maybe you can call them puzzle woodcut collaborations?

Let me know if you have any questions on logistics. It would be good to
start small.

I’m thinking of applying for an NEA grant and going global. Can you imagine
hundreds of printmakers from all over the world collaborating on one
humongous puzzle? Wow…
