Hi everyone. I know the news on this forum has been so sad lately. I would
like to share with you some good news.
My friend Harold Garde, who developed a very interesting monotype technique
called Strappo has made a how-to book that is available on blurb.com. If you
go to
_www.blurb.com_ (
http://www.blurb.com/)
click on "Just Published"
do a search for "Harold Garde"
The book should come up. You can preview the first sixteen pages for free
if you like. The book is available in hard or soft cover.
You can see more of Harold's wonderful art on his website

I was honored to have learned strappo from Harold a couple of years ago, it
is a lot of fun!

Wanda was always a voice of compassion and sanity and generosity. I
treasure the memory of meeting her. All of us are fortunate to have
known her, through herself or through her work.

How very sad indeed. I met wanda at the Summit in 2006 and she was such a
delightful, happy person.

Barbara - I am shocked and truly sorry to hear this - I had the
pleasure of meeting Wanda at the Vancouver 'summit', seeing her demos
and benefiting from her kindness and patience ..this is a very great
loss for her family and friends.
Sadly, right now I'm visiting an old friend (who is young in years)
and after living with a deadly cancer for 5 years is now approaching death
very bravely - I found some beautiful portraits (archival photos) I
had made of her many years ago and which will enhance the memorial
service she and friends are planning - she says since she won't be
there she'd like to know about it ahead of time .. truly amazing and
a great example to all as Wanda Robertson must have been to her
family and friends.

I was so saddened to hear the news of Wanda. Sad because she has
passed and sad I didn't have the opportunity to meet her in the
forum. Her last words were very touching. She sounded at peace. She
is in prayers.

Barbara...
Thank you for letting us all know about Wanda. I feel so blessed to have met her at the Washington Summit. Though she wasn't able to come the entire session, those days when she would give a demo, or share with us, she brought a tangible excitement for printmaking and life. I was sorry not to be able to get to know her better but thought it would happen at a future time.
Your description of her last days and words was very moving and comforting. What a marvelous woman, so talented and so untroubled by death. Here is a woman to admire. I feel privileged to have known her so briefly and wish you and her family strength in the days to come.

My computer seems to be on the fritz. I apologize for the repetitive posts. Could two of the three be deleted?

Yep, already did that, Diane. (your computer is just an April fool!)
Still, your message was good to read.
It is wonderful to hear all these folks singing, throught the Baren web, for Wanda!!!
This lady obviously had a special impact on us, for sure.
Blessings on her, and through her, blessings for all of us, on our meandering walks through life and art.

I, like many, felt like I knew Wanda even though we never met face to face. I have met Barbara and spent some time with her at boot camp and she just gushed over Wanda and what a wonderful person and how they got along so well. It was infectious
The news really touched me and drew a tear. I send out my deepest sympathy and regards to those family and friends she's leaving behind.
May we all learn the lesson in how to be so wonderful to others and touch each others lives like she did.
Fondest alohas Wanda,

This news was beyond sad!
Wanda was such a generous, kind person, and so full of
imagination and softness. She was the perfect person to
moderate our list. She did it with great care, and made the
list a safe, focussed place where printmaking and friendship
were supreme.
Since I heard this news, I’ve taken some time to reread her
letters.
She talked of lambing time on the farm, and caring for those
newborns. “They feel like warm, wiggly hooked rugs to me
& I love to catch them & pack them around when they're little.”
(02-22-02)
Repeatedly her letters spoke of her joy at springtime!
“It is the first day of spring today - and Oregon is going right
along with the plan. The flowering trees are making little pink
clouds of blooms all over the place and the daffodils are
putting out their bright yellow blooms also. Really pretty
today. (03-20-01)”
She advised watering seedlings with camomile tea to prevent
damping off. She looked forward to planting smaller, prettier
trees in front of the large trees of the forest. Her love of
plants reflected well in her prints!
Wanda participated faithfully in exchanges, and was eager to hop
in if there was an opening in an exchange. She had been in
every exchange from #3 to #33.
She was an eager helper to fledgling printmakers to her last letter!
I’ve tried in the last day to think of how I might spend the
time on April 12 remembering her. I will be in Oregon only in
my thoughts. Then today I reread this note, sent during a
conversation between Gayle, Robin, and Marilynn:
(4-04-06) “Cool, I *love* kites! I've made a few - one I
really loved was an octopus. It's legs were long crepe paper
streamers & as it floated above the ground the streamers would
drift down as it rose & lift up as it rose like it was swimming
in the air. Great fun! I've never made any for any important
events, though. Wanda”
She said that she would be with the wind, so on that spring day
I’ll fly a kite and remember her! ...And I’ll miss her!
Best wishes and condolences to her family, and to her family
here at Baren,
Sharen

"And most important, please be kind to each other, and
patient with each other. This is a wonderful group and we
discuss wonderful things - let's keep on doing that."
Wanda Robertson, (02-22-02)
It's Wanda's humor I miss. And she had a way of making you feel like
you were her sister. She wrote good emails full of life and
intelligence. Sharen, thank you for sharing snippets from some of
Wanda's posts. We need to collect those and any others we can find
and put them together on one of Baren's web pages. I like the idea of
flying a kite on the day of Wanda's memorial. I have a great little
biplane kite and I just know Wanda would have enjoyed flying it as
much as I do.
