Sarah - basically, I agree with you and Benny re 'fools' and I
didn't really intend to suggest it could be 'politically incorrect' -
a term I dislike as well BUT I'm really concerned that
the exchange could consist of too many literal interpretations of the
fool/jester etc - perhaps I'm doing all possible participants an
injustice and it could be madly inventive
so apologies to all ............

Hello Bareners,

I'm tired! The Southern Graphics Council Conference in Richmond was
jam-packed with things to do, people to meet, and prints to look at.
I was very happy that I got to meet moku hanga artist April Vollmer
and see her extraordinary work in real life. Nothing compares to
seeing the real thing. And I also saw Barener Tiberiu Chelcea,
although we found each other only at the very end of the conference.
He's doing some nice woodcut work. I missed Angee Lennard -- maybe
next year?

Then there were the vendors -- McClain's, who I couldn't live
without, was there with the whole staff; Graphic Chemical; Hiromi
Paper. It was great to see them all.

Next year the conference will be in Chicago. I'm now hooked on it, so
I look forward to the possibility of meeting Julio, Sharen Linders
and other Chicagoans!

Melissa, welcome. I enjoyed looking at your work. I especially
enjoyed seeing that you do both figurative and abstract. You did a
great job on those woodcuts after 25 years!

Hello to Exchange 36 participants,

This is to remind you that tomorrow, April 1, is the deadline for dropping
out of the exchange without being subject to a penalty. And all prints are
to be delivered to me by the US Postal Service by May 1, just one month
away.

Here's my address again:

Carole Baker
P.O. Box 56
Gustavus, AK 99826 USA

This would be a good time to read over the information page on the
exchange:

http://barenforum.org/exchange/exchange_36/exchange_36.html

Please remember to send a little extra for return mail as the rates will be
going up May 15.

And to those on the waiting list. I'll inform you as soon as possible as to
anymore dropouts.

Thats about it for now. I am still traveling and won't be home until
sometime next week. I will update then on whose prints I have received.
Until then cut and print. And thanks to all of you whose prints are sent.

It is with great sadness that I share with you the
news that Wanda
Robertson passed away last week.

As you may know, Wanda was diagnosed with cancer in
February. She
had small cell cancer, a very fast moving strain. She
went through
two rounds of chemotherapy, with courage and good
humor. However,
after the second round, she realized it was time to
take another
path. As she said, it was time for her to go home.

Over the next few days, her pain increased. We were
able to keep her
comfortable and surrounded with people who love her.
She had really
nice days on Easter Sunday and then Monday. Tuesday
morning she
slipped into a coma. She was kept company by her
friends and family,
who sat with her and held her hand all day.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, March 25, she opened
her eyes, saw
her daughter and a good friend, and slipped away.

A few nights earlier, when talking with Wanda about
what came next,
she said she was going to the forest. She would be
with the wind,
she said, and we would find her under the leaves of
the plants. She
said she would be keeping an eye on us.

Throughout her illness, Wanda was so happy to receive
the cards and
prints from her friends on the Baren list. Please
know that your
good thoughts, messages and artwork lifted her spirits
immeasurably
and kept her connected to all of you.

Her blocks, prints and collection of Baren Exchange
art are being
stored safely with love and care.

We will have a memorial for Wanda on April 12th at
3:30 PM. It will
be at Atkinson Memorial Church, 710 Sixth St, Oregon
City, OR 97045.

If you want to share any messages with her family,
send them to
greg@canby.com

or mail to

Lauren Robertson
2135 NE Territorial Place
Canby, Oregon, 97013.

On behalf of Wanda and her family, thank you for being
a part of her
life.

This is very sad news. I never had the privilege to meet her but she struck
me as a dynamic woman.

Dear Friends
I am very sad. I only met Wanda via personal email discussion of some of the Baren topics. And a few technical questions, which she always responded to quickly and fully.

Being with my oldest friend last year as he died of a tumour over some months, I am glad to hear that Wanda was surrounded by her friends and family. Your shared words, Barbara, which you told us are very touching. I will look to meet her underneath some plants when the spring and summer comes this year.

Peace to all, and to Wanda, riding now on the wind.

It is a sad day indeed. Just being in the baren forum and having exchanged prints in exchanges with Wanda makes me feel as though I new her personally and have just lost an old friend.
My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

It's difficult for me to find the right words. Visiting [Baren] a long
time before I signed up, Wanda's name was on my mind since I have been
visiting this site.
Have a good travel, Wanda, on your last journey.
