I haven't had a chance to add my 2 cents to the Baren discussion, until now

.Prints are important for all the reasons already given by Baren members
especially what I just read by Sharri and Mary Grassell- making social,
political, and historic comments, multiples, story-telling, satisfaction of hand
carving, etc. As David Bull said in our Brochure""If you like doing something,
isn't it better if it takes a long time?"

This does not answer the question of why prints are important. It's about
one person doing her individual art thing and why.
After being in the art game for 40 years with a career in watercolors,
monotypes, and devised experimental methods on paper, my main reason for being
grabbed by the media of woodblock prints was different from any yet mentioned
. It was the possibility of playing with infinity: one simple geometric
block to print surprising satisfying variants by overlays, turning of the paper,
various size papers.... My art mottos are --KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid),
Less Work for Mother, Gut Feeling.

Barbara - your question has brought out many replies stressing the
PERSONAL importance of printmaking which you can perhaps use in that
it's vital to the artistic life, survival and well being, etc of so
many people engaged in it (as well as propogandic purposes throughout
the centuries)
the fact that it used to bring art to 'the people', so to speak, is
really no longer applicable as different reproductive processes have
taken the place
of the woodcut.

Please could someone tell me the price of postage within the USA - I
expect to be there next week and would like to take my 'ratties' to mail -
a stamp to the US from here in Canada has now climbed to 96 cents!
thanks

postcards (6 wide by 4and 1/2 inches tall) are 26 cents
larger in size than that, will be 41 cents.
an odd shaped letter, which includes 5 or 6 inch square letters are 58
cents.

Send Message: To this poster

Someone saw one of my prints on Etsy and would like to buy the rights to the
image to use to represent her small letterpress business. Have any of you
had any experience selling rights to your work? I'm wondering what a good
offer would be for this and what sort of legal issues I need to consider.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I have a company using my images on their bags and they have a 1 year
license to use the images that allows them to use them but I retain all
rights to use the images in any other way.

In fact, I need to get to renewing my license with them as I have been
slacking and have gotten behind.

I collect 10% of their sales and get a 50% discount on any purchase my
design or not. I get paid quarterly.

I would suggest a clear contract and clear communication with this person.

Congrats and good luck!
