To those who think it makes no difference which orientation a print
takes allow me to tell you a story of my first etching. I decided to
do the house my husband was raised in. Imagine my surprise when I
pulled the first proof! It was a lovely image of someone's house,
but not my husband's! Right then and there I learned that there are
certain things to which it really does matter, and architecture is
one of them! Sometimes people can be another, particularly if they
wear their hair in a distinctive asymmetric style. So, yes,
Virginia, sometimes it does matter!

Cheers ~

I also would love a summit in Central California. Bea I do not know if you
remember me but I moved up to San Luis Obispo county and would love to
help out if we were to meet up in this area. I am about 1.5 hours from
Pacific Grove.I am in Templeton Ca.now. Gilda Zimmerling

Yes, of course I remember you. Your kids must be big now. When did you
move? If you want to work with me it would be great. Most of the stuff
with Asilomar can be done on the phone or by email. First we need to hear
if people would be interested and then how many. When I did conferences in
the past people flew into San Jose or San Francisco. There are small planes
available to go to Monterey when the flight is booked into Monterey or
people got together and rented cars. Some also drove up the coast from Los
Angeles. It s a wonderful drive. Bareners, please let us know if you'd
like us to research it. I think the bigest problem would be an early date.
It isn t cheap but there are ways for people to be economical. Look at the
web site http://www.visitasilomar.com/. Looks like it could be fun. Bea

Great topic.

I go back and forth (sorry for the pun) on this one myself. I often can't decide, but of course eventually I have to pick one or the other.

I ran into this problem recently with my xmas card print. I imagined it one way, then went and carved it w/o flipping it. There I was stuck with it the other way (after a major element was corrected). But I came to appreciate it anyway and now I like it "backwards."

So does it really matter?

Yes, Bea... I will definitely come so definitely plan on one from Puerto Rico. This will be my 'art highlight' for the year.
