Good idea, Robin! My print is on the World Printmakers site at:
http://www.worldprintmakers.com/english/preempt.htm.
I'm looking forward to seeing those prints.

Sue, is your press set too tight on the block??? You do not want to crush
out the ink. That would make fine areas fill and also pull ink from
srrounding areas. Try less pressure.

Iraq update:
I have received Robin's prints since last update
23 participants, 14 sets here, 9 left to arrive
First deadline was May 31st, working period was 6 months, last deadline was
August 30
Robin is the "director", I'm just the "coordinator" so it is his decision
when to cut this project off

Cairn update:
I have received Mike Lyon's handsomely carved block since last update
79 participants, 69 blocks received, 10 blocks left to arive any day now
First deadline was May 1st with a working period of 12 months, that's TWELVE
MONTHS

I will accept blocks until printing time, at which time I will make the
final announcement

Maria

Hi Marilynn,

Worth a try, definitely. I have to get hold of some more good paper now
but I can still play with the settings and newsprint. I'll let you know
how I get on.

Thanks,
Sue

If fine lines are filling in it sounds like too much ink. When you roll up the block, view it at an angle with glancing light, you should be able to see if it is thoroughly inked. Any areas that do not have enough ink will look dull. More than necessary ink will be really shiny. I think you will be able to judge a pretty consistent amount of ink. Also after inking up a few times run the block with newsprint or even newspaper through the press to keep the ink from building up too thickly.

Robin & Maria, I understood that the deadline for the Iraq prints was
May 1, not May 31. I mailed mine on April 30 and have to admit that
I'm beginning to feel a bit of a chump.

Three recent woodblocks of mine are in a group show at Cheryl McGinnis
Gallery, 1287 Madison Avenue, in New York City, between 91 and 92 Streets.
The reception is this Tuesday evening, September 11, 2007 from 6:00 to 9:00.
The show is up until October 6, hours are 10:00 to 5:00 Tuesday to Saturday.

I hope anyone near NY will stop by!

Wimberley is such a nice person! She was so helpful when she took my class
in Portland, Maine, and we talked all about Mike! (all nice things!)

I would suggest she contact Richard Steiner, http://www.kiwa.net , don't you
think that is a good place to start? Richard teaches informal classes in
Kyoto. The Nagasawa program only includes one US artist per year, so is not
really a useful resource.

Best,

April
