Exchange #35 needs a THEME!

Exchange #35 (oban, about 15 x 10 inches) will open for sign-up October 1 --
we need to decide upon the "theme" for this one! Please reply with your
THEME SUGGESTIONs and feel free to vote on the suggestions of others as
well. I'll try to compile your 'votes' and hope we'll be able to reach
consensus during the next several weeks leading up to the sign-up.

Exchange #34 coordinator:

Mary Kuster will coordinate exchange #34 (THANKS to those others who kindly
volunteered!). Prints are to be in Mary's hands no later than November 1 --
her mailing address is listed in the exchange details at
http://barenforum.org/exchange/exchange_34/exchange_34.html -- PLEASE DO NOT
BE LATE!!! The deadline to withdraw from exchange #34 without penalty is
October 1.

Exchange Archives.

Thanks to Mary Kuster (again), a new ARCHIVE for Baren print exchanges
appears to be a 'done deal'! Baren Exchanges #1 through #30 will continue
to be archived at the Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, Kansas. Exchanges
#31 and forward will be archived at the University of Kentucky Art Museum in
Lexington, Kentucky (per Janie M. Welker, Curator of Collections and
Exhibitions, http://www.uky.edu/ArtMuseum/). This is GREAT NEWS, I think!

Exchange Galleries. I know, I know - I'm BEHIND by a MILE - these take a
HUGE amount of time to prepare and I now have a number of exchange galleries
to get 'up there' - seems like the hurrier I go the behinder I get, but I
haven't forgotten these and will get 'em up as soon as I can find a spare
week or two!

Best,

OMG! I'm SO HAPPY -- just HAD to SHARE (OK, maybe 'brag' is closer to it -
but who else am I gonna tell?).

There's a new exhibition opening tomorrow at the Kemper Museum of
Contemporary Art http://www.kemperart.org/ called "Backstage Pass:
Collecting Art in Kansas City".

Several friends called last night from the "donor's preview" to tell me
(COMPLETE SURPRISE TO ME) that two of my large pen and ink drawings!
"Sarah"
http://mlyon.com/blog/2006/04/figure-drawing-7-x-375-feet-complete.html from
the museum's permanent collection, and "Arthur"
http://mlyon.com/blog/2006/11/arthur-77-x-425-inch-pen-and-ink.html loaned
by the collector are included in the exhibit!!! My work apparently hangs
next to two prints by Chuck Close, his 1996 "Lorna I" inkjet portrait
http://www.kemperart.org/permanent/works/Close.asp and his 1993 "Lucas
woodcut" http://www.picassomio.com/artwork.html?artworkId=13991

&locale=en

Wheeeeeeee! I'm bursting, but going back to work now!

Backstage Pass: Collecting Art in Kansas City

September 7-November 4, 2007

By pairing artworks from area private collections with examples by the same
artists represented in the Kemper Museum's permanent collection, this
exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to see outstanding paintings,
photographs, and sculptures by internationally acclaimed artists, including
Willem de Kooning, Duane Hanson, Deborah Butterfield, Helen Frankenthaler,
and Lezley Saar, among others, normally housed in private homes and offices.
The diversity and quality of the featured works are not only a testament to
Kansas City's rich history of supporting the visual arts through public and
private patronage, but also proof to the thriving support and enthusiasm for
the arts in the city today.

Special thanks to M&I Wealth Management for sponsoring the members'
exhibition preview. Additional thanks to the Bradley W. and Linda J.
Nicholson Foundation and an anonymous donor for supporting the exhibition.

Please join us for the opening reception, Friday, September 7, 5:30-7:30
p.m.

inches; Collection of Pam and Gary Gradinger
