Hi Sue,
I'd go over the press small parts with a toothbrush and I use an
excellent non toxic solvent called D*Solve supplied by Mark Zaffron
(of Z*Acryl), his place is called CRATE and is in San Francisco. A
good soy based solvent used sparingly should clean it, not make too
much of a mess and hold down the rust. For steel press beds (should
you want to refinish yours) I use an orbit sander with 220 sandpaper
then give the bed a light coat of car wax.
