Jan, if I were you I'd blow off the recipe concept and purchase some methyl cellulose. It comes in a powder form, you simply mix water with it til it's the thickness you need it and it is archival.

I'm not sure where you would find it in your neck of the woods but bookbinding materials places usually carry it.


also, the ready-made rice paste that you find at places like McClain's or Japanese bookstores apparently have some kind of preservative (maybe formaldehyde?).
