Hi all,

I've just uploaded a rough design for my Exchange 33 print onto my Blog site. I don't know if people keep their designs secret, and whether I'm spoiling the surprise or breaking any exchange rules, but I wanted to keep an online progress report on my print, in case anyone was interested.

hi folks i just read three weeks worth of baren digests in one sitting and
would like to relate a GOOD story about the new years card exchanges.
for two years now i have been lucky enough to be asked to do Artist
-in-Residence in my local schools. Last year it was only one school ,one
day, but this year the art teacher wrote a grant to get two days each, in
three schools, and we did -guess what ?
linoleum block printing . These were kids in grades 4-8 , most had never
done it before.
the first day i give a presentation to the whole school which includes my
own big woodcut collages and framed prints and most importantly a large 40
x 60 " collage which contained 40 year of the DOG and 20 year of the BOAR
cards. I also bring all my sets of cards starting with HORSE thru the
present. We talk about Chinese Astrology and each kids finds their year and
can do either the present year or their own year(or another animal -we're
easy). It is extremely inspiring to these kids to see all your wonderfull
works and they learn so much by examining them and learning about what is a
good composition, the balance of black and white and many interesting
carving techniniques. the rest of the day we design the blocks . the second
day- carving and printing . this year i had to wait until i received my
check from the school system to afford postage for my boar/pig , which i
carved and printed back in February -you all will be getting them soon.
every other year i have been on time, but i hope we keep the exchange
intact,as is , because it IS fun to get them all year Gillyin

Gillyin-
How wonderful that our private little "year-of-the" project has
expanded into the world! Not to mention your educating a whole new
bunch of print-lovers.
