Thank you Dave for posting the link to Matsumura-san's boar
prints....excellent prints as ever, such an inspiration and I am sure most
of them are
done in the traditional japanese style. What a treasure !

Thank you also to Sadako-san for all the hard work to get the prints
online for us...we don't see her post often on the forum but her behind
the scene work translating, helping with the mall, Matsumura-san's website
and I am sure many other details has been a real godsend to the Baren
group.

All the beautiful prints from Japan inspired me to get off my butt and
update the Baren New Year galleries...so there are now a whole bunch of
Roosters,
Dogs and Boars (and piggies too !) online...my thanks to Carole Baker for
lots of the behind scenes scanning & uploading images to the
Baren site...THANK YOU !

Hi printmakers
I love all the little boars that have been showing up in my mail box! I hope to get mine out soon. I feel like my work is not very cohesive so i have decided to change the way i work. in the past i would have an idea, make a drawing, carve block, print edition, then move on to next subject, style, and or print medium. it seems like i have printmaking ADD. So i have decided to do a series of at least ten drawings first then carve all the blocks at once. i am hoping this will help. so far i have completed 6 charcoal drawings and they already seem to form two separate groups. oh well maybe i need to do twenty drawings. you can view them altogether here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/74294604@N00/sets/72157594404895500/
my plans for them as woodblock prints will be something like this:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/74294604@N00/192231986/
if my new way doesn't work out i think i will ditch the drawing on paper and go straight to the block. I would love to here how other people work.

Subject: [Baren 32964] GreatArt Japanese ply offer info.
Send Message: To this poster

I just thought I'd flag up an offer on Japanese Ply from "Great Art" a UK mail order and online art materials store.

They've just started a "Buy 3, Get 4th Free" offer on 5mm "Japanese Ply"

I haven't tried it myself, so can't vouch for it or tell you what kind of ply it is, but doing the maths on the offer sounds pretty good even if you only use them for colour blocks.

They have 3 sizes, 22.5x30cms @ £1.50, 30x45cms @ £2.35 and 45x60cms @ £4.30.
Each size is double the previous size, so I've worked out that if you have the means to cut the blocks ( A Workmate and Jigsaw), it's well worth buying 3 pieces of the largest size, and getting another piece free: Total £12.93 and then cutting each piece into 4 22.5x30cm blocks, giving you 16 of them. Priced at only 80p each instead of £1.50.

16 22.5x30cm blocks bought individually would cost £18.00 with this offer (£24.00 otherwise).
