Hi, Robert,

Ex-28 prints haven't yet been mailed. We've had an
extraordinary delay, but they'll be going out very soon,
complete or not! I needed to take the past two weeks off for
other things. It just isn't fair to wait any longer.

I apologize for the delay. We began with all good intentions to
have a timely exchange, and almost every set of prints was here
on time!

http://1000woodcuts.com/Artist/artistbeware.html

I have been meaning to put this on the web to warn others about the most
popular scams targeting artists. As a background, I have been on the web for
quite a long time now and receive several of these weekly if not daily,
alhtough I have taught my email filters to screen out most of these.

Scammers are clever and can sound very professional. I have had emails and
phone calls from very professional agents and collectors that sound good at
first, until some red flag goes up and warns me. There are infinite
variations on the scam plots and they get tougher and tougher to spot.

Anyhow, I thought this might be useful to some of you, especially those
starting out on the web, either by website or blog, will be targeted at some
point or another.

Be careful out there!
Maria

I have gotten these exact types of emails! Thanks for bringing it to the public eye (or our communities eye)! I kept asking them questions and after two or three emails, I realized it was bogus. They are very crafty.

Holly wrote "Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find good birch plywood?"

I had a similar problem with birch plywood from Home Depot, Menards and Lowes. I have been using MDF plywood and have been happy with it. There are no gaps under the veneer. They do use a formaldehyde resin in making it ( they are apparently working on other materials ) so I wouldn't use power tools to carve in it. It does carve well and there isn't the tendency for the second layer of plywood to cary the tool where you don't want or split the top layer. It probably isn't as nice as good cherry plywood but is lots cheaper and easier to come by.

Thanks everyone for the feedback,
It is very much appreciated.

Benny,

I have made the gallery 3 link contains stuff that dosen't fall into the two other catagories and I want to try and focus (a problem of mine :o) on woodblock and monotypes and encaustic. So I put the other prints and paintings, etc. in another category. Anything that isn't encaustic, woodblock or monotype I put in Etc. I thought maybe for a while it would be good to show different types of work from the past. I would welcome other suggestions on this area?

Robert,
I am actually not a .com yet. This is my free space with my ISP. I thought that's why the page isn't titled.
Am I wrong? Did I just not do that part correct when I started out? It's still all very new to me.

Leigh, Robert,and Annie

I think your right about the forward and back navigation,
I'd like it to open up in the same window like a slide show type thing I think. Hmmm.

This website building is quite a thing to me. It's like a real absract three dimensional? puzzle trying to make all the pieces fit. I am enjoying it.

I am one of those poor souls with a terrible internet connection. The worst it ever was 7 - that's right - 7 kbps. The best 40 kbps. Right now I have stabilized at 26-28 kbps. Sad. But I am a patient person and I know that once an image is loaded it loads faster the next time. BUT maybe there won't be a next time if thay take too long to load, so I will reconsider the sizing. I am not sure about size. Better quality-smaller physical size of picture? or less quality - bigger physical size of picture? I am sure I am more patient waiting to see how they come up on my own site than I am when it's another site.

I really appreciate everyone's thoughts and will share the updates and askk for more feedback, if you all don't mind.

Thanks again,

Well, the dust is starting to settle after my return from the summit. It
was a delight to meet everyone face to face ... we shared a lot of laughs
and had a wonderful time. Again, my warmest thanks to those of you who put
so much work into the planning and organizing.

A number of people were keen to take down details of my little bottle jack
press. I would like to ask anyone who actually builds one to send me
pictures. I would like to post them on the SSNW website.

On a more somber note, poor Zakki has suffered a set-back. When we got home
on Saturday evening, he ran around like a crazy fool ... like a normal
puppy. On Sunday morning he was still full of beans. By Sunday evening he
had slowed down and was not very hungry. About 1:30 in the morning he began
throwing up ... which he continued to do every 30 minutes until I finally
put him in the back yard at 5 am. He had a fever and refused all food and
water. He went into the hospital Monday morning and was placed on IV
fluids. He continued with diarrhea and vomiting through the day. This
morning his fever was down but not normal; he did eat, and he seemed more
stable. The vet will call this evening with and update.

Best wishes to all ....... Charles

Poor Zakki. Does the vet know what's wrong with him? Did he overdo it at
the summit like the rest of us? Hope he's feeling better soon.

There is an Xacto-type blade made in Japan that is beveled on both sides and affords a degree of control when used as a toh. Worth exploring. Thank you for your considerable contributions to the summit. Not the least of which the unending supply to sticky buns.

Yes, if you apply the mica on top of the paste it will be shinier.

Claudia,
Knock off any loose paint with a wire brush and paint with rustoleum spary paint, the kind they use for autos...pick a good color for woodblock.
Best to you,
Barbara
