Congratulations.... I hope we will be able to get a glimpse of the work
from someone please.

My Best wishes to everyone able to attend the Summit in Portland. My
spirit will be there with you all and I hope to read a lot of what will
happen in the digest next week and beyond.

If I could put my little submarine spy glass through the globe I would.
If I could crawl through even better......last time it took me 23
hours just to get to Vancouver and that was by plane!

Thinking of you all,

Okay, so we had a slight delay...it's okay, I'm in charge and I forgave
myself. I had dog problems...the surgical kind, and I now have a $5000 dog
that can't yet walk without help. Poor Yuki, all 85 lbs of her; poor Maria's
lower back. http://1000woodcuts.com/Artist/doggies.html (for the curious)

Anyhow! The design was completed last night and cutting proceeds today and
possibly tomorrow.
Here are the pictures and update:
http://1000woodcuts.com/projects/cairn/index.html

This time I am going to coat the block with walnut ink and oil so that the
blocks will be easier to carve and perhaps not so conducive to proofing. Not
that you absolutely can't proof, I understand the need, but cutting a tinted
block should be easier for all to see.

There were three blocks this time, divided into 79 pieces. Most pieces are
around 5-6 inches in diameter (12-15 cm) so don't think big! As it is, with
79 participants and three blocks, I will have to print 237 prints plus
proofs just to give one set of three to each participant. If I feel
energetic at the time (or some unexpected help shows up :-) nudge, hint,
hint) I may print an extra set for everyone to make it two complete sets per
participant or 574 prints. Yikes...we'll see.

Other than that, the paper this time will be a nice tan to go along with the
pile of rocks theme. Black ink again, the oily kind. By the next puzzle
project I will have a bigger press and thus be able to accommodate larger
pieces for each participant, but not this time unless I have an outstanding
fall festival season.

That's about it, off to the jig-saw party. Will continue to update the
website, promise.
Maria

PS Looks like I won't make it to the Summit due to the aformentioned
dog-problem, Yuki hand-feeding and rehab is scheduled 5 times daily.

Darn it, Maria. I was so looking forward to having you in the tin teepee
campground. And I did want to see your stone printing. Bring the dog along.
I will have my new and ailing puppy with me, and we can compare vet bills.

Cheers ..... Charles

Hurray for the Cairn project. Oh no for Yuki. Bummer for missing the
Summit. Can't you bring her along? ;- ]

My sister just had surgery on her nearly-$5000 stray Rhodesian Ridgeback
mix. No accounting for the love we lavish on our four-footed pals. Hope
Yuki is doing all right. Knee surgery by any chance?

So sorry you won't be at the Summit. I was looking forward to meeting you
in person. Hope to meet a whole lot of you next week. 8-]
