You could do a creature of the sea in the nude! After all none of them wear
clothing, at least none that I know of. A mermaid is a nude!
Bea you did peak some interest in me for the creatures of the sea theme tho.
That would be choice #2 for me if it comes to that.
Oban eww, that is bigger huh?? I may have to get into paper making down
here just to get paper, hmmmmm.
Gads, grinding pigments and making paper, as well as doing all my own
carving and printing. I never will finish a thing or be up for hours
trying!!!!!

I am not leaning one way or another on #29...I done them ALL going back to
#1 and they have all been fun....but it always leaves me thinking why it
is that we (as Baren printmakers/artists) are so sensitive to political
statements and doing anything that has a 'cause' behind it. Other than
commercial use, printmaking (and relief printmaking specially) has always
been used for making statements of one kind or another....

If anyone in the worlwide community should be open and tolerant of other's
views it should be us.... the artists.

thanks...Julio

Hi All,

Julio's comment about tolerance leads me to a thought of how artists can
promote peace and understanding in the world by "celebrating the world's
cultures", as a theme?

i don't believe that it is the artists' community's lack of tolerance and understanding that we need to worry about. I think it would be more of an issue with everyone else.
Regardless, whatever the vote comes out to be, I am there!
even if it is a "cause theme" I'll do it! F_ck everyone that doesn't like it!
Nudes, trees, self portraits, people duck taped to the ceiling.... I don't care. I make art for me.
(sorry for the language. Sometimes it is the only way to really get the meaning across)

So far the most exciting to me has been the "people duck taped to the
ceiling" suggestion :-)

How about if we go for our favorite cause and promise to do the printing
nude under the sea?

Er, my vote for "cause" since it would be most interesting to see what
people care about.
I'm thinking of starting a society for the manufacturing of better
frame-protector corners that don't fall off; and another for better tasting
yet still nutritious cat food (this one from my kitty, obviously); another
for the revival of non-motorized/silent transportation, like feet and
well-oiled bikes; support for hikers anonymous; grants to art-festival
artists for the purchase of beef jerky, Ben Gay, and Gatorade...gosh, so
much to care about these days...

Maria

PS Apologies, been revising the web site in order so that future revisions
will be a snap, all 789 pages of it, getting close

It was my post initially, but I think people may have gotten the
wrong idea.
My favorite "cause" is Autism Awareness because of my daughter. I
thought it would be neat to do a print for the exchange that could
also be used as a donated piece for the local groups or such.
Someone else may care deeply about Downs Syndrome and want to do a
print. Etc....

I had wondered what each person's cause would be also, and what the
images would look like, knowing that if they were displayed or
donated for sale, what would be sellable but still relate somehow to
the need?

Oh well, back to my corner.

What if we don't have a cause? I mean I care about nature and animals, but I
wouldn't say that I am part of any cause.

No offence to those of you that like the idea, but I am up for anything
except the cause theme.

I like the comic theme, after all, if you who like the nude for a theme you could always do a nude comic :)

Maria,
I'm looking forward to the puzzle project what a great idea!

I'm also voting for a NUDE theme. I looked back over the exchanges and there was an erotic theme but not a nude and they're definitely not the same. I wouldn't mind doing a cartoon or favorite cause but it seems like there are a least a few people who are having an adverse reaction to the thought of anything political. If either of these two themes are chosen I wouldn't like having any resrictions on what my cartoon or cause might be about.

Not wanting to do a cause themed print doesn't make one intolerant. It just
doesn't interest me!
