Dear Blog Manager,

Although I certainly see the beauty of the blog in all its glory, I am
saddened that these blog reports are some times the only "conversation" that
the Baren Forum receives.

Rather than having the pleasure of hearing members talk to each other
through email messages, I now stand outside in the rain looking in (hey,
drama is everything) as a stoic faceless auto-messenger delivers these to my
mailbox:
"Hi this is Joe: If you want to see what's going on in my life, come to my
little corner of the web; if you want to respond, respond only to me; if you
want to see what others have said, come again and again and read the
responses in my little corner. Then go to someone else's little corner and
do the same thing."

"Hi this is Mary: If you want to see what's going on in my life, come to my
little corner of the web; if you want to respond, respond only to me; if you
want to see what others have said, come again and again and read the
responses in my little corner. Then go to someone else's little corner and
do the same thing."

"Hi this is Pete: If you want to see what's going on in my life, come to my
little corner of the web; if you want to respond, respond only to me; if you
want to see what others have said, come again and again and read the
responses in my little corner. Then go to someone else's little corner and
do the same thing."

"Hi this is Jane: If you want to see what's going on in my life, come to my
little corner of the web; if you want to respond, respond only to me; if you
want to see what others have said, come again and again and read the
responses in my little corner. Then go to someone else's little corner and
do the same thing."

Sigh. So, without the time or gumption to go off visiting all these little
rooms, I stand out in the rain in hope that perhaps some day the entire
group will gather again, all together in our big collective room, to have a
lively conversation (rather than a series of dialogs or, let's face it for
most bloggers, a monolog) with all of us involved.

Yes, I know blogs are easy to create and provide a way for people that
before were not able to have their little web corner. But that's just my
take on the whole blogging thing.

Off to my little corner...
Maria

Dean, thanks for this!
Although I enjoy doing work with waterbased inks, I'm still a sucker for
that "oily" feel.
I'm sure I will be among the first to try them.

Finally! I have to agree completely. When I joined the group a couple of years ago, I enjoyed being in on discussions of methods and materials. As for the blogs, I do like to look at members' work. However, I would also like to hear about methods, mistakes and the like. I can't imagine why new members would join, and am certainly beginning to wonder why I subscribe when 90% of emails are from the blog manager.

As a member and a blogger I appreciate what you are saying here. I joined
this forum after blogging had pretty much already taken over. As a result
most of my direct messages to the forum have been very limited, mostly
questions. And I don't have a lot of questions at this point. I don't know
when I should even write something here to be perfectly honest. Since I put
down so much in my blog and that is sent to this mailing list I feel that if
I write about it here I am being redundant. What is the etiquette? I prefer
blogging because I can include pictures, but I would totally be willing to
write this group if I knew that it was an okay thing to do. I am interested
to hear other peoples thoughts on this issue.

Well, the last time I got chatty, there was a general smack-down on chattiness, and all such posts were suggested to move to the After Five list. So I did. I don't have to worry what I say there and I feel welcome. I'm not a professional printer, so I already feel my questions are going to be amateurish or naive. It doesn't help to be told they're also an irritation.

Not alone Ellen, at that time I was spouting too and would voice ooh and awe about everyone's work. I would post several times per day. But, I got the hint that I should be more reserved.

I belong to a couple of groups where it is expected you to post quite regularly and I got accustomed to that.
But, I am sure my chattiness was noted here.

When did you get an etsy shop Mindy? I totally missed that! And wasn't your
turtle featured on the home page?
