If this isn't the right person, Jeanne, I've got at least one other in
Chatsworth, Ontario. I don't have your e-mail, so contact me at
dean710@msn.com and I'll arrange a contact. We don't normally give out
information on customers, so either I could call him or send him your
contact information by e-mail.

A magical experience! You can read David's Xmas poem as you listen to
him reading it.

Penn State University's Palmer Art Museum has two upcoming exhibits that
might be of interest.

European Modernism
American Works on Paper Gallery
January 31May 21, 2006

The origin on European modernism can be traced back to the mid-nineteenth
century, when artists such as Gustav Courbet and Edouard Manet developed a
new formal language to deal with a subject matter distinct and more
ephemeral from what was taught in the academies. Their work encouraged
further experimentation on the part of successive generations, particularly
in the direction of self-expression, which became key to the proliferation
of formal innovations in the years that surrounded the turn of the next
century. This exhibition, organized with prints and drawings selected from
the Palmer Museum's permanent collection, explores the widespread explosion
of styles in Europe toward the end of the nineteenth century and during the
first few decades of the twentieth century. Included are woodcuts by Lyonel
Feininger and Brcke artist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, two prints from Wassily
Kandinsky's early Bauhaus portfolio, Kleine Welten, several linocuts from
the futurist-inspired Grosvenor School, and two early drawings by Paul Klee.

New Perspectives: An Academic Selection of Works on Paper
Special Exhibitions Gallery I
February 14May 28, 2006

This exhibition will feature works on paper from the Palmer Museum's
permanent collection that will be selected, researched, and presented in a
fall 2005 seminar by graduate students in the Department of Art History.
The content of the exhibition will be developed over the course of the
seminar, and could include any combination of works from the museum's paper
collection, from Italian Renaissance engravings to twentieth-century
American drawings.

Colleen,
Don't feel too bad, I sent my monkey with the rooster last spring...once in a while all of us just can't seem to get stuff done...the spirit is so willing and the body so slow!

Dave,
Again I howled with laughter at the Christmas poem and I have certainly seen it before...but enjoy it all over again every year!
Merry Christmas to all,
Barbara

I want to thank all of you who wrote to say your exchange prints are
forthcoming. I too don't mind the prints coming in after the new year.
I enjoy them coming in throughout the year. It's the ones that never
come that really irritate, but when they still aren't here after 1 or 2
years, it makes me wonder if they will ever be sent.

Thanks and best wishes for the holidays,

We work n the dark - we do what we can - we give what we have. Our doubt is
our passion and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art.

I composed woodblock images by adapting and developing a method of Escher's.
These were shown at the Donnell Library Center this summer in an exhibit
called "Too Advanced for Connecticut".

The word Escheraria was made up by my webmaster and the title of the exhibit
by a curator friend.

Hi Bareners,
Japanisme, edited by Lionel Lambourne arrived this morning and it is a
beautiful book with many woodblock prints.

The woodblock images attached were composed by adapting and developing a
method of Escher's .These are Variations in layering using one block .
They were shown at the Donnell Library Center during the summer in an
exhibit called "Too Advanced for Connecticut". In the same exhibit were other
prints and Maria's Baren Puzzle Print.

The word Escheraria was made up by my webmaster and the title of the exhibit
by a curator friend.

A wonderful characteristic of the Twin Cities art world is that it occurs on almost every street corner in some way, shape or form. ... The Highpoint Center for Printmaking is one of these neighborhood spaces. It serves as both a gallery and a fully equipped studio cooperative for printmakers. ... The exhibition is organized throughout all of Highpoint, meaning the viewer must navigate artists workspaces and a vast array of tabletops and machinery to successfully experience each worka detail that only enhances the idea of process in printmaking. Far too many artists contributed to this exhibition to list them all, but here are a few standouts.

Nick Wroblewski turns in a couple of stunning woodcuts, most notably Water Laughing, a colorful piece that recalls the famous woodblock painting by Katsushika Hokusai (The Great Wave). ...

PRINTS, You Betcha! is on display through Jan. 20 at Highpoint Center for Printmaking, 2638 Lyndale Ave. S., Mpls., 612-871-1326. Gallery hours are Mon.Fri. 10 a.m.5 p.m.; some weekend hours and by appointment.

Modern art rooted in traditionalism showcased; Exhibition highlights Japanese art

KUWAIT CITY: Japans mystique appeal and the diverse schools of art extant in Kuwait will make the Modern Japanese Printings exhibition a success, said the General Secretary of National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL). Bader Al-Refai was talking to the Arab Times on the sidelines of the opening day of the exhibition, organized jointly by NCCAL and the embassy of Japan in Kuwait, Wednesday, at the Museum of Modern Art in Sharq. ...

Works of famous Japanese artists like Shiko Munakata were part of the exhibits, which are divided into five categories: older artists who have concentrated on prints, by reviving the art of woodblock printing; leading Japanese artists, not professional printers, who made original artists prints, mainly in Lithography; artists who have employed the technique of etching; internationally active contemporary artists who experiment with art forms beyond the conventional bound of prints and painting; and younger artists who have expanded the applications of print media, including photography and relief printing. ...

A total of 58 works are on display and the exhibition is slated to go on for a week until next Wednesday.
