to julio!
Yasu is an amazing printer! What a fantastic work of art! Thanks for the link.

Ok everyone! The polls are in-- NO RICE FLOUR. I will try the methyl cellulose sometimes soon, but for now, I am going to stick with this TEKNOBOND powder stuff and see if it yields good results. So far it is holding consistancy in the tuperware container I have it in, on my shelf. No refirigeration. It is clear, and smooth, a little like jelly and only costs $3.50 a 16 oz box.
I used a recipe sent to me by one of the Bareners of 1/4" tsp to 2 tblspns water. (you know who you are, Thank you!)
I will keep you all posted as to my resulting expiriments!
I have my drawing finished and key block hanshita layed down for exhibition 27. Carving begins tonight! I am thrilled. I am sure you all know the feeling of the first steps into a new and distant jouney. I have been printing a long time though I am new to woodblocks, and I have found joy here. Thank you everyone for your help and support!
Cheers, Rob.

Maria tried and could not find your show at the link. Julio the links you gave were interesting. Chuck Close "Emma", does that remind you of anyones work? I instantly went Mike Lyon. You sure are in great company out there Mike. Little old me will probably never be famous but some of you are more than on the way! Congrats to Maria even if i did not find the segment.

TEKNABOND: a "starch ether" (a starch processed with ether) -- it's
probably more similar to rice starch paste than methyl cellulose
(methyl ether cellulose) -- and sounds like a good choice for hanga
printing at $3.50 per dry pound!

Starch ether: Modified starch with ether groupings like
hydroxypropyl-starch, cationic starch and carboxymethyl starch --
cationic starch is often used in paper-making because of its affinity
to cellulose (paper fibers).

Starch: a polymer of glucose found as a reserve in most plants.
Another glucose polymer found in plants is cellulose. Compared to
cellulose, starch is made up of alpha glucosidic bonds, which cause
helix-shaped molecules, while cellulose build with beta glucosidic
bonds giving straight molecules and a fibrous structure.

Wow Mike! You really get right down to it! Thanks for the info. So, it seems I hit on to something here then right? (teknabond) or is this bad stuff?
Cheers, Rob

Hi Bareners,

I have posted messages a few times and eagerly await
the portfolio of #26 exchange.

Does anyone know galleries and/or artists in Buenos
Aires, Argentina? I will be there January 18 - 22,
2006, and would like to look at prints.

Expert printmaker to teach at college

The unique art of printmaking is being taught for the first time as a college-credit art class at South Florida Community College's Highlands Campus in Avon Park.

The instructor, Mollie Doctrow, is a professional printmaker with a master's degree in Printmaking from California State University, NorthRidge. She is the curator of SFCC's Museum of Florida Art and Culture (MOFAC) and currently has her work on display in two juried shows, the 14th Florida Printmakers Competition at the University of Miami and Art Encounter 2005 at the Naples Art Center.

"Make Your Mark: Printmaking at SFCC" will cover printing techniques such as relief printing, woodblock printing, etching, and making monoprints and silkscreens. Any art student, from beginner to advanced, will broaden their knowledge and skill. (more ...)
