Bette, Thanks for the congratulations! The illustrations that World Haiku
Review picked up to use are actually digital illustrations. But one of the
reasons I'm pursuing moku hanga so vigorously is because so much of my
digital work *looks* like moku hanga. It just seems natural for me to learn
to do the real thing.

Send Message: To this poster

The Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CCP) in Norwalk, Connecticut is
offering a five-day workshop in "Traditional Japanese Woodblock Printing"
Monday September 19 through Friday September 23 (week after
next)... http://www.contemprints.org/Workshops_Woodcut.cfm has all the
information and includes a photo of the wonderful artist Robert Parker
during a similar previous workshop there.

The CCP called yesterday to let me know that the workshop is a 'go' even
though they have only three students registered -- perhaps one or two more
will decide to register when I present a couple of lecture demos September
17th at the nearby Silvermine Guild Arts Center's Professional Artists's
Symposium, "Art Focus" http://www.silvermineart.org/focus/focus.html -- "A
unique career development event, Art Focus will provide artists with
information to enhance their careers. The symposium will feature business
of art workshops by notable authors and technique demonstrations by master
teaching artists. Keynote speakers will include artist Janine Antoni, a
MacArthur fellow who has exhibited in both the Whitney and Venice
Biennials; and Eric Rudd, author of the Art World Dream."

In any event, the CCP workshop will be quite small so participants will get
LOTS of personal attention :) !! The workshop will give the novice a huge
jump-start into traditional multi-block Japanese printmaking technique
(moku-hanga) and will be worthwhile for experienced woodblock printers, as
well... I believe the CCP allows a pro-rated 'partial' registration if
you've only a short time available -- worth requesting if you can't
schedule the full five days -- CCP's contact information is:

Center for Contemporary Printmaking
Mathews Park
299 West Avenue
Norwalk, CT 06850
phone: 203-899-7999
contemprints@conversent.net

CCP staff Heather, Chris, Tony, and/or Jackie will be happy to assist when
you call...

Hope to see you there!

Hi Annie,

I was going to ask you that. Your images are indistinguishable from
woodcuts. So interesting. I loved your tea time woodcut. I'd LOVE to see
the sad fish in a woodcut!

Dan, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face surgery in the
morning. And I will send the same good wishes to all of your doctors and

Barbara et al-
Re George Walker' s new book - I had picked up his "The Inverted Line"
(2000) [containing about 70 of Walker's interesting and very varied
engravings with comments - many of these look like woodcuts to me] at the
AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) shop a couple of years ago - Altho' I've been
in Toronto over 5 years now I've never met him - don't move in the right
circles I guess

I just got back from nearly 3 months in France -did close to 100 mostly bl
& wh sketches some of which I hope will be turned into woodcuts - big news
for me is that I''ve been invited to exhibit a group of pen drawings in a
marvelous Normandy chateau for Spring '06 In the event that anyone might be
interested I'll send some pics and links to Baren's "After Five" when I can
find the time.
welcome to all the new people (I'm beginning to feel like an oldtimer) and
all the best to Dan Dew

This is not woodblock, but if you want to go and see some on my new work, I have started a blog. with luck I have it set so anyone can read it...I have no real idea how to do this so if it works, great! Photos are here, maybe.... http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/barbaramason45/album?.dir=19a7&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/barbaramason45/my_photos
I am starting on #27 now that this exhibit is up. I was going to do a tengu for fun, but have changed my mind...maybe I will put the carving on the blog! I have no idea how to get more than one picture on it.... computers are not my strong point. I loved the progess on Annie's blog so will see if I can figure out how to do the same. After all the hectic running around to get an exhibit up....I need a nice calm woodblock, with nice zen carving and printing. It is so good for your soul.
Best to all,
Barbara

Having been through 7 surgeries (all successful) I can say that it isn't as
bad as you think. Just hold on to the fact that you will feel better and be
back making art very soon!
