It's seems to me that themes should be limiting or spring-boards.
How about "life-lines"? I suggest this knowing full well I won't have
time
to participate!

Hi Gilda

If you've got time to make some plaster of paris blocks, the kids could
scratch into the plaster with a metal knitting needle. (Is that considered
sharp?) and relief print them. Or draw into or press objects into
clay/plastacine or playdough, gently roll it up with ink and print. Or make
a collage / collagraph of leaves, card etc., and print from that. Have fun
whatever you choose to do.

I like Sharri's suggestion "Dreams and Visions", too.
Not too open, it has some special touch but it is not too narrow.

Okay!

The 2006 preliminary survey is online and ready for everyone interested to
vote.

This is a very sketchy "let's get a feel for this thing" few questions.
After we see who is interested and what the group's needs are, we will know
more what we need to do and how to organize this thing.

Please note that, at the moment, there are no available accommodations at
the studio. This is different from last time and very important that
everyone know they will very likely have to seek accommodations elsewhere
and transportation to and from the studio. The facilities are simply not
there for a mass sleep-over.

Once we know more details, we can post an attendees list and folks can make
arrangements with each other for sharing hotels/cars. Later we will also
have a list of nearby hotels/motels/campgrounds with distances from Sharri's
place for everyone to arrange their own stay. As has been posted on the
list, there are also many Baren members in the area that can house a couple
of attendees, so stay tuned for those announcements.

Should be another FUN TIME!!!!
Oh yeah, here is the link: http://www.barenforum.org/survey/survey.html
Please vote only once and make sure you enter your name and email, all
responses are logged so if we see repeat votes they will get deleted anyway.

Another wonderful rooster came strutting in today. This one red and
black and gorgeous. Which brings me to ask - has anyone received mine?
I sent them out a couple of weeks ago and wonder if any made it to
their destination. You can contact me privately. Gad, I hope these
guys didn't run amok and I have to make a new flock.

Is the welcome mat out to complete beginners as well?

I would love to plan to make this part of my summer in '06.

I've tried looking at the pictures, and reading, but I want to ask a
question:

Do you have to carve to the kento marks?

I understand clearing out a space of about 3 inches around the area to be
printed, but do you need to go to the kento marks or not?

Absolutely! Best way to get to know everyone...

Some people come with work they need to do and get/give advice to others on
hanga/printmaking/life.
Some people come and hang out.
Some people come and watch everyone and learn learn learn.
Some people come with things they want to show to everyone (Show and Tell)
Some people come for a day or two and take part in some of the activites.

Everyone is welcome for any reason! But it's best to come with work, an open
mind and something to share.

Did I miss anything?

Thanks, survey filled in.

I might have to bring my wife, though, as our anniversary is the 15th of
August and we have never been apart on that date.

Dan,

> - - Does it make any difference if the kento marks are in the right
> or left corner?

I use my kento corner at the top of the image so that I can extend the
paper longer if I want to to give it length.

I use the side registration mark on the longer side so that it is
easier to manipulate the weight of the paper as it could be tricky
sometimes placing it say "across the shorter paper side" with wet paper
weight opposite with no support.

Whether the kento marks are on the left or the right I don't worry as I
am ambidextrous and never worried about specifically featuring it on
one side or the other, but, there are some printers who are very
dominant on one hand and it may be easier to line up the corner kento
with the dominant hand.

Your choice.
