CONGRATS April and Mike (and are there any others there on the Baren list?) on the Union Show, looks GREAT and like you all had a good time there.

Charles and others, I have used citrusolve, which is an orange cleaning product (I believe similar to the di-limonene Charles discusses) for transferring xerox to paper and to wood, does it work for transferring xeroxes to copper?? sorry if this is a dumb question but I haven't tried it on this material.
best wishes

Hello John,

From the web site, I gather it is an emulsion backed paper. You print on
it with your laser printer. Then adhere it to a copper plate. Then soak the
paper off with water. Then you etch the copper plate in ferric chloride,
using the laser printed emulsion as a resist. I gather this is used to make
complex circuit boards for the electronics industry.

But, perhaps my understanding of the process is flawed. Anyone out there
know for sure?

Sarah, citrusolve is the same basic stuff ... d-limonene is the chemical
name of the basic material in almost all citrus cleaners. The trade name
for the stuff I use is TKO Orange. I have used TKO Orange to transfer a
xerox to an aluminum plate ... I suspect it will work for copper as well.
Put the xerox face down on the plate. Saturate a sheet of paper with the
citrusolve. Cover with another piece of paper and a sheet of acetate or
mylar. Run the whole mess through a good press. Peel everything off, and
your image should be there. At least that is how I did it.

Cheers .... Charles

April, Thanks for sharing the photos from Union. Looks like a lot of fun.
Congrats again to all.

Colleen, I didn't participate in the deck of cards exchange, but I would be
interested in purchasing a couple of decks. One for me and others for
printmaking friends. They'd make great gifts for fellow artist friends. Let
me know when and how to send payment. You can contact me off-line if you
wish.
Thanks, Connie Lambert

Hello from Alaska---Thanks for all the links, advice, ideas, as always.
Colleen, you can use my jacka diamonds, and I would definitely sign on
for some decks. I'm heading out to check out the wildflowers in Arizona.
Does anyone have any must-sees or must-dos in the Phoenix-Tuscon area?
Galleries, shows, fairs, workshops....? I'll be there most of the month
of March, and should be able to take some time off FROM smelling the
flowers... :-) Aimee

Aimee,

Don't miss the Scottsdale Arts District and Art Museum, downtown Scottsdale
and in the Civic Center area. Many galleries along 5th Avenue as well. Also,
the Cave Creek area, North of Phoenix is worth seeing, an upscale very artsy
community.

Also, there is the 5th best arts festival in the nation, Scottsdale Arts
Festival, March 11, 12 & 13. I will be there Saturday and Sunday as I was
unable to secure a 3-day spot this year but 2 days is better than nothing.
Artists come all the way from New York and Florida to do this show.

I think all the SW rain is over now (cross my fingers) so you will also be
bathed in sunny 70 degree weather.

Have fun,
Maria

Thanks Sharri, and Mike, for looking in on my prints. The colours, in fact everything I use (almost) is from the Baren Mall (thanks Barbara).

The black is the sumi paste that costs nothing and lasts for ever and is as black as black can be. Likewise the little pigment packets are fantastic value and they are "kind" to the washi, and easy to clean up. Why shop anywhere else? My tip of the day: put the pigment packet into a pestle and pound gently with the mortar - through the plastic. This way the pigment is crushed, but you dont have colour coated equipment to deal with. Likewise with gum arabic, wrap it in a cloth and pound it with a hammer. The little flecks will dissolve almost instantly. I am a real fan of the gum, it is great for holding a small amount of pigment to make pale shades. The more I look into the Japanese technique the more sense it all makes. Square handled carving tools, for instance - fantastic - they dont roll off the table!

I don't know if a written email permission counts... I would rather receive
it written just to make sure. However someone told me that email counts
only when there is an electronic signature... I am not sure about what that
is... anyone knows?

Peter Petersen,
unfortunately the cards exchange was an old old - i'd say elderly exchange
which took a while to complete - see the details at:
http://www.monoprints.com/exchanges/cards.html

Jeanne,
although I have made so many works on violins and stringed musical instruments,
I can't play any of them - and I haven't even tried! I just love the sound
of these instruments plus I find the shape of the violin really inspiring
