Hi, Marco and Dave,

Cool to learn some of the stuff you guys were cooking up there...
Now I hear from Carol that Marco is doing an in-gallery demonstration
thingy at the Asian Art Museum here...wow!
I can't just uproot and come stay at Dave's right now as much as he
might plead, hehe, but I can go and watch Marco and learn from him.
I have been waiting for an opportunity to watch some first-hand
work...I look forward to visiting. Thanks too for the tips...the color
thought...
so some folks carve lines with the beveled side of the blade? Hmmmm.

This link should have a dot before the "jpg" and not a comma. The link
should
read:

Thought you might be interested in recent "progress" -- not a print at the
moment -- a painting -- you can watch the painfully slow process via my
web-cam at http://mlyon.com or directly here:
http://lyonstudio.inetcam.com/ probably be actively painting for a few days
-- 66" x 22" brush and sumi on paper, 14 shades of gray, 120,000 brushed
dots!

A friend sent me this VERY interesting link after seeing my recent drawing:

http://search.famsf.org:8080/view.shtml?keywords=&artist=%6D%65%6C%6C%61%6E&country=&period=&sort=&start=11&position=20&record=46527

It's a 17th century engraving -- head of Christ -- one continuous line
spiraling from the nose (check the enlargement link and keep clicking on
the nose to zoom in) with tones established by both turning the line and by
widening and deepening the engraving... Fuels the imagination, eh?

Printmakers,
This note just came to the mall and think it must be a thank you to our very own Harry in the UK who must have spent time at this school. Good job, Harry, we need to promote printmaking at ever opportunity! They obviously had a great time and want you back!
Best to all,
Barbara

Mike,
I actually saw this print in person with no glass about 3 weeks ago at the Gilkey Center here in Portland. They brought out some treasures of the vault for our collectors club at Print Arts Northwest to view and the curator talked about the historical signifance of each one. It was a great treat to see the real thing...amazing to see it mentioned on baren.
Best to you,
Barbara

Maybe I missed something Mike, but how are you doing the big drawing?
I saw the spray/ink bottle - but don't understand the process you are
using.
