Tom,
Much of the linen paper, so-called "resume" paper and definitely parchment
papers sold at office supply stores are acid free. Just look for the words
acid free on the package, as not all are. Or online, staples.com,
officedepot.com, officemax.com, all carry a variety of nice pH neutral
papers. I have printed engravings on both linen and parchment papers.

Hello Bette,

I have not yet received my deck of cards either. If you have a moment,
please verify that they have been sent. There have been some delays in
packages to Canada because of backlogs at the border, so perhaps that is
all it is.

Cheers ........ Charles Morgan

This question is somewhat similar to a discussion from a while ago about
printing with a rolling pin a'la Julia Child (NOT a rolling pin press). If
anyone has used this process for printing woodblock, or especially for
collograph, I would like to see if you've had success with using a blanket/pad
like the ones used on an intaglio press?

My concern is that using no blanket might result in tearing the paper, and if a
blanket is used I wonder if two passes might be needed to get a good impression
-- but I don't want to risk the image shifting.

Am I being paranoid? I should just try it and see, but I thought it wouldn't
hurt to ask around.

I've uploaded some of the photos from our October 12-25 trip to Japan --
you can view them and read some descriptions here:
http://mlyon.com/2004_10_18_Japan/index.htm

The pictures cover our visit to:
* the studio of David Bull, famous Tokyo woodblock printmaker and Baren
Forum founder who was a great host as always (thank you, Dave!)
* Iwano Ichibei, the Living National Treasure of paper making who sends
his greetings and best wishes to all Baren members -- he is very happy that
we are offering his paper for sale in the Mall
http://www.barenforum.org/mall/products/iwano_hosho.html -- GREAT paper --
by far the best I've ever used!
* the Kyoto studio of woodprint artist Richard Steiner who was very
generous
* the opening of my print show at Go Yamao's beautiful Gallery Ezoshi
in Kyoto and attended by a number of well known print artists including:
* Katsuyuki Nishijima (prolific woodblock printmaker)
http://yoseido.safeshopper.com/120/cat120.htm?884
* Richard Steiner (Kyoto printer and teacher)
http://www.richard-steiner.net/
* April Vollmer (New York printer and teacher)
http://www.aprilvollmer.com/japan/index.htm
* Kazuo Taninaka (Kyoto silkscreen printer)
http://www.cyber.kyoto-art.ac.jp/~joho/prof/taninaka/taninaka.html
* Ryohei Tanaka (the most famous etcher in Japan?)
http://www.bushidojapaneseswords.com/tanaka_ryohei.htm or
http://www.castlefinearts.com/fs_biography.aspx?page=/Japanese_fine_arts_woodblock_prints/Ryohei_Tanaka_Biography.aspx

* Yasuyo Nonoguchi, and others!
* note: the prints of Katsuyuki Nishijima, Kazuo Taninaka, and Ryohei
Tanaka (and my own) are available for sale through Gallery EZOSHI (of
course!) but Ezoshi does not have a significant web presence -- the links
above are not intended to promote those other galleries over Ezoshi, but
only to help you view examples of their work...
It was a SPECTACULAR journey, wonderful to have two weeks with my wife and
my parents, to see old friends and make new ones, and very fulfilling to
have apparently sold 53 prints from the two-week long show -- WOW !!

Best,

Mike
