Sounds like a fabulous time ... I'm jealous! It's really heartening to
see such nice looking prints come into being ... if you keep up this
kind of activity, we might have a real renaissance of woodblock on our
hands!

You can always reach me at my contact page at:
http://woodblock.com/contact/contact.php
... but in the case of the 'answers' to this quiz, I'm not really sure
if I can add any particular insight. Just what Utamaro was thinking of
when he put those titles on the prints we really can't know (_if_
indeed it was him; it could well have been people at the publisher's
place just sticking them on).

So please don't take that quiz too seriously, nor try to read too much
into any 'failure' to get 100%!

It _is_ interesting though for me to track all the entries and note
that so far, not a single person has made all five correct matches on
their first try.

Dear Bareners,

The new issue of Simply Haiku online publication of Japanese short-
form poetry and art has been released today at http://
www.simplyhaiku.com

I'm very pleased to announce that our Baren member April Vollmer is
featured in my Traditional Haiga section promoting the beautiful
Japanese printmaking technique Moku-Hanga. Thank you April for
allowing me to feature your art.

It is wonderful for this publication to allow me to share the art of
Moku-Hanga with the world. I appreciate you sharing comments with
me or the chief editor. Simply Haiku is one of, if not the leading haiku
online publication in the world.

Thank you,
Bette Wappner

Mike, need your workshop, sounds wonderful. Learning more from this list
every day, now I know why western paper is not so good for hanga, it
stretches. I tried it and thought it was me, so

Barbara Mason what is the name for the new paper at the Baren mall? Tell me
soon as I wil order some and some of those dry pigments as well, thanks for
your wonderful mall management.

Also a question about mixing dry piments. I am going to need new pigments
when I go south this winter. In the encyclopedia Dave is mixing only witn
alcohol and water. But most sources i check mention using hyde glue or gum
arabic in the mixture for storing. Does not alcohol dry the pigment out? So
if one wants to mix the pigment and keep it damp would not one want to use
glue? And how much glue or gum arabic do I use??? Also how much pigment
should I order, 1 packet of each or several? I need enough for several
series. Will be gone 6 months.

Mike my favorite of your new pieces is Sarah, Pink Robe. Beautiful
classical pose with a sensual feel. All in all great work, congragulations.
You are fast becoming one of the sought after printmaking teachers and your
work I am sure is also being sought after. How wonderful for you.

Mike - wonderful work, as always, and it was so interesting to hear of
your experience. Enjoyed the slideshow of the class, too - looks like
a great group.

Mike, congratulations, sounds like everyone had a great time and the
facilities look wonderful.....the photos of the worshop setups were very
interesting too, good to see so many people working away on woodblocks, by
the look of the prints created in class I think many of the folks have a
good inclination toward printmaking....hope to see some of those names on
the baren forum soon.......your new print images are very 'revealing' ;-)

thanks.....Julio Rodriguez (Skokie, Illinois)

I followed Dave's instructions about the alcohol and
water. I store my pigment mixes in these Jelly jars I
get. They are glass with a wide mouth and have metal
lids with a gasket on the underside. They've worked
great and because the gasket prevents evaporation,
I've never had drying problems.
