I didn't see Julio's note 'till I woke up Saturday AM, but as that means
it's still Friday evening over in Chicago, I guess he means that he is
ready to go live ...

I have just opened up the Mall calendar page. You can find it linked
from the Mall Map at:
http://www.barenforum.org/mall/map.html

or jump right in directly to the page at:
http://www.barenforum.org/mall/products/calendars.html

Again, a thousand thanks to Julio for all the work he is doing on this
project - our largest to date by far. How many prints involved Julio -
around 3,000+?

Dave

Another lurker surfacing again......re Chris' question about craft shows...I'd suggest getting an application from the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede for the Western Showcase which they usually send out in December. They have different categories, salon, gallery, auction, and fine crafts section, I have been in the auction (with paintings) and the Artists' Window. The latter is a 4 hour time slot where you can display a few pieces and work on your chosen medium. Lots of exposure for ten days. There are alot of Christmas markets going on right now here in Calgary and Spruce Meadows is a good one to look into as well. Good luck with your sales.
Have you been to Gallery San Chun yet?
I have a question about a woodcut I bought this summer , I certainly didn't expect to find something like this at an Antiques show! It was done by a Russian artist, I was told. It is multicoloured, moku hanga (pretty sure), of an area showing a construction crane, some small homes and either factories or apartment type buildings. The only thing I can read is the date 1961. The vendor bought it in Toronto and xeroxed what is on the back of the print, and put it on the backing of the frame. I haven't taken the frame off yet to compare but in the meantime, if anyone can read Russian, please e- mail me directly and I could send an attachment of the text and/or part of the print. The print is slightly larger than my scanner bed so part will not show. I asked a person who translated Russian here, and she told me the name of the artist was Suramelo..on doing a search, all I came up with was Israeli soccer scores, with a Suramelo mentioned several times as a scorer. She couldn't read the rest of the text. Any suggestions most appreciated.....Nancy O.

Hi,

Welcome Paul.

Aside from that particular exhibit, if you're interested in
biblical art themes, check out Dan Dew's work at
http://www.dandew.com/
(the site also contains the work he's done for Baren exchanges).
I think you'll find it interesting.

Hi,
A year ago in October, I joined the Baren group and participated in the
"Year of the Sheep" exchange. My day job got too hecktic so I unsubscribed
from online activities. Boy, have I missed you all!

Time passed, the family has moved from Michigan to Missouri, and I find
myself signing up for the Baren list again. Thanks for still being online!!

My only memorable entry in the archives has to do with my request for
information regarding ordering a chop
(http://www.barenforum.org/archives/vol21/v21_1991.txt)
While there were several resources sent to me, it was an amusing
request to many. Since I was (and still am) new to woodblock printing, one person
responded "Lisa, aren't you putting the horse before the cart?" Another person,
gratefully, bailed me out: "I got a kick out of Carol saying you are putting
the cart before the horse...I think this is a great idea. What better way to
start than to envision the finished work."

My thought is that I was putting my "heart before the course."

The saga continues. Yes, I did get the chop, and grand it is. But, I don't
know what direction is the correct orientation! (I can hear the laughing
now.)

I would appreciate it if some kind soul would take a
look at the chop mark,
and tell me which one is in the correct orientation:

Thanks, and I hope you all have been amused,
Lisa, now in Missouri

PS. If there is anyone in the greater St. Louis area, I sure would like to
meet you. Send me an email off list:

Several of us Bareners have the same first name and although we may say
things that are quotable it would eliminate confusion if last names were given when
making references to what is said.
Thank you.
