Just in case anyone was interested, I ran across this bookbinding press on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2567696099&category=46735 For what it is worth, I have a poster printer I use, it works and was cheap. For simple woodcuts it is better than a book press. But after having used a vandercook sp 15 this weekend while on a course I can say it was the best press going... bar none. I spent a wonderful afternoon in the ROM a few years back. I was rubbernecking my way through the galleries when a woman came up to me and asked if I was interested in prints. She then took me back to the archive room where I discovered a number of wonderful Canadian printmakers of whom I had never heard. A marvelous experience that I want to repeat next chance I get and highly recommend to anyone else. What about Montreal? I am going to a meeting there in the summer of 2004. Any suggestions from the group? It still works okay, but will it damage the little knots in my shin if I continue to use it? I want to put it off as long as possible! I do have a bunch of bamboo sheaths, is the Mall carrying them again? Philadelphia neighbors are invited to my opening at Silicon Gallery Fine Art Prints this Thursday, November 30 from 5 to 7. Anyone rather be in Philadelphia?? It still works okay, but >will it >damage the little knots in my shin if I continue to use it? Yes! Nothing drastic, but yes, it will increase 'wear and tear' on the inner coil, and will bring forward the day when you have to steam that open and re-wind it ... and that's a job you want to postpone as long as possible ... I do have a bunch of bamboo sheaths, is the Mall carrying them again? It changes minute by minute ... Matsumura-san got some in last week, but as far as I understand it, a 'thundering' large order came in and scooped most of them up. Not sure when he'll have them back. Might be worthwhile just to put an order in through the Mall, and let it sit with him on a 'back-order' basis ... It was another 'bad' year over here for bamboo sheaths, a cool and wet summer ... :-( *** >Maria wrote: >It's easy, just ink the whale, grab it by the tail, swing over your head >and SLAM-O!!! right on the paper. I thought this was a forum for woodblock printmaking. ;-) ;-) If you want to get into 'Gyotaku' ( life-size replica fish-printing)...go visit this website: http://www.gyotakumaui.com/ http://www.sumi-art.com/gyotaku.html or at Dick Blick: http://www.dickblick.com/zz429/07/products.asp?param=0&ig_id=3590 Anyway, I think this is the print Maria was referring to, that's one 'whale' of a woodcut print: http://www.yingxuezuo.com/Printmaking/fish.htm Julio ps...hey Maria..not a bad idea, Gyotaku, that way if you get hungry during one of those cross-country festival trips of yours....you can sort of 'eat' your art on the road....wow...that puts a whole different meaning to 'defacing' your 'block' or 'limited-edition'... ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V25 #2423 *****************************
