Baren Digest Wednesday, 8 October 2003 Volume 25 : Number 2400 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Julio.Rodriguez#walgreens.com Date: Tue, 7 Oct 2003 07:46:22 -0500 Subject: [Baren 23013] Re: Number in an exchange edition Welcome to new members/lurkers Gonzalo, Robert, Matt and Claudia from Hawaii....and any others out there I may have missed.... Re the exchange editions...Maria, Ray and Mike have already explained but I wanted to add that because Baren is such a mixed group of beginners, intermediate and pro-level printmakers....we have tried to come to a compromise that will accomodate all levels. Some newbies have trouble doing 30 prints and some seasoned pros can get them done in a few hours....such is our wonderful world.....all we ask is that you send enough prints to cover everyone in the exchange plus one for our archives at the Spencer Art museum in KC. The rest of the "edition" is yours to do with as you please. So in reality the "exchange" is not a complete "edition"....but it could be if you so wish. Claudia,,,the calendars will run $24.95 plus shipping for the Nudes, Landscapes and Full-Page...and $16.95 for the desktop Postcard (4X6") calendars. Sometime in the next couple of weeks there will be a web page up for ordering calendars thru our BarenMall....calendars will hopefully be mailed out during the first week of November.......some great prints in from Gilda .....more details soon. http://www.barenforum.org/calendar/ thanks...Julio Rodriguez (Skokie, Illinois) And finally...here is a post from Jean Eger Womack on the wood topic: "When you are thinking about materials, you just have to go with what you've got. If you wait until you have the exact tools and wood you think you need, you'll never make a woodcut. Poor old Gauguin in Tahiti carved into rough wood: I think it was pine. We still study his prints today as examples of excellence in printmaking. Cherry is hard to carve because it's hard, but it is good if you want to make hundreds, if not thousands of prints. So that is the material for a professional like Dave. Basswood is much more satisfactory for carving and printing an edition of 30 or 40. I have basswood planks that were sliced in half horizontally, from 3" to 1 1/2 or something like that. Now they are all warped! If I wet one side and let it sit, it will straighten out, but when it dries out, it goes right back to being warped. There's no way to win when you are dealing with wood." ------------------------------ From: LEAFRUTH#aol.com Date: Tue, 7 Oct 2003 14:10:55 EDT Subject: [Baren 23014] Re: Baren Digest V25 #2399 L Green, I love your stair walking horse. I am not sure if there is a problem, and if so, what it is. Here is the pertinent line from the header I get from the university web server: X-UVic-Spam-Score: 6.7 FORGED_MUA_AOL,NO_REAL_NAME,SUBJ_HAS_UNIQ_ID Here is the same header line for a message from Julio: X-UVic-Spam-Score: 2.1 HTML_10_20,HTML_MESSAGE,NO_REAL_NAME I am not sure what the difference is, but I have noticed that your messages usually get classed as spam, even though they are coming through Baren. Anyway, I just thought you should know. Cheers .... Charles ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V25 #2400 *****************************
