And I also was just sharing my experience. The thinner and more responsive the paper, the more fine detail and texture is easily revealed. Lo these many years ago, I had a similar revelation with painting, as I was basically teaching myself that, in my late teens, in an artistic wilderness. After years of frustration and thinking all my problems were my lack of skill, I discovered that better, more appropriate brushes were the answer to quite a few of my frustrations. All work entered will be exhibited. This is a fundraiser for the Press. Our nonprofit community press is in finacial distress, like so many other nonprofits this year. By working for the Press full time for the first time in 12 years, with a small salary, from last Nov til this last July, we quadrupled in size due to donations of equipment, supplies and volunteer hours... everthing but money. I am back on volunteer status, and starting a new job in education soon....so I am praying for your support. Does that mean that you will not accept entries from Canada? I had written to you before about this but haven't had a reply. It might be too late by now, though. I've tried it on oil based inks only. It still doesn't clean deep stains in the cut areas, but does remove most of the remaining ink. I haven't had any luck with the micro abrasive sheets e charset=us-ascii Thanks for confirming my suspicions, Louise. I haven't had any luck with the micro abrasive sheets either. One thing that might be of interest is that I mix the stroping compound (the green stuff) with some chromium oxide green oil paint and it makes a better paste (stays in the groove better). Maybe I'm just inept. I'm gettting the idea that sharpening gouges is an art in itself. If you are using oil based inks, it is generally best to soak it, or dampen it and place it in a paper pack. Personally, I prefer a paper pack as it simplifies printing for me. I hate having to take a sheet out of the tray, let it drip, roll it between towels or blotters, and finally you get to print. Much easier to simply slip a sheet from the plastic bag, fold the bag over to protect the others, print and then place either in blotters, or back in the bag, depending upon what you're doing. So, after that long bit of not much, On with Stonehenge. It is a US made paper, comes in lots of wonderful colors, is inexpensive, is archival, and prints well. It does better with black and white, and maybe one other color, but does not take layers of colors well. Hope this helps! Happy printing, (that means more keepers than tossers) Sharri ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V24 #2382 *****************************
