Hi Julio - I sent off my calendar prints on the 4th Sept. -hope they arrive soon - cheque will follow as I'm afraid I let myself run out and am waiting to receive new ones. Where does one find the calendar images I understand you've put on the net?? And given all you have to do, I can well wait for your card, as well as for those from our LYON, georgia, and Charles- it will extend the pleasure of finding some more in my mailbox for a while longer. I'm off to research those monkeys, now... Chow! It is a machine made wood pulp paper that is sort of like washi in that it has a smooth side and a rough side. It that doesn't stand up to repeated printing, though it would be useful for those first dozen proofs to get your block warmed up! Eva, thanks so much for the link to your new information on Chinese woodcut. I saw a lot of Chinese woodcut in Boston at the Southern Graphics Council meeting, and was surprised to find that many in China do oil base woodcut! Your description of Chinese waterbase technique is very clear. How did you find those artists in China? Are the prints quite different from Japanese? Is the paper sized? best, April www.aprivollmer.com ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez#walgreens.com Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2003 12:51:50 -0500 Subject: [Baren 22763] Re: chinese woodblock Eva, thank you so much for the links to your website and the chinese woodblock technique. I also enjoyed the re-prints from the "The Ten Bamboo Sudio" one of my favorites. I had a question regarding technique and tools. I am guessing that the paper used is not moisten prior to printing. I am saying this since the whole stack of paper is out on the table under the registration clamp and it would be hard to control. Or do they work on small quantities to keep the paper moist ? Also is the paper sized or treated in any form ? Also...I tried to reach Colleen Corradi's webpage at http://www.monoprints.com/exchanges/cards.html for an update/mailing address for the Playing Card Exchange but the page/server seems to be down. Does anybody have the address or knows what's going on ? Colleen are out there ? Speaking of monoprints/monotypes...I picked up a video/book instructional package on ebay re the technique...it has studio demos by four different artists....I think it was created circa mid 90's...anybody here familiar with water-based materials that can be used for creating monotypes using a Vandercook press ? Also need info on what's the best type of plates to use for this technique. Would like to stay away from the toxic stuff. thanks...Julio Rodriguez (Skokie, Illinois) ------------------------------ From: Kat Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2003 12:32:55 -0700 Subject: [Baren 22764] Kenyata & Grace Julio wrote: >Two packages of Postcard calendar prints received today. Julio, HELP! I have a big problem regarding size on my December Calendar print. Just sent the Post card print out and I was getting ready to start printing December. I went back to check everything first and saw your message dated August 19. I discovered that I am part of the Page Calendar print ( needs to be 7.5x10") not the Prints only Calendar - I had cut and dampened 6.5 x 9.5"paper - ugh! - didn't catch that it was Nudes only. Do I need to get new paper? Would 6.5 x9.5" ruin the look of the calendar? I'm about ready to go but changing paper will add time. Let me know ASAP. Sorry. It is a white paper with white threads going through it and that can enhance some images. The paper cannot be torn as easily even when wet along a line because the threads prevent that. So have a scissors handy for those spots. Carol L. ------------------------------ From: Cyndy Wilson Date: Fri, 12 Sep 2003 19:28:27 -0700 Subject: [Baren 22770] Re: Calenda 2004 prints received....
