Baren Digest Monday, 8 September 2003 Volume 24 : Number 2365 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Janet Warner Montgomery" Date: Sun, 07 Sep 2003 10:06:52 -0400 Subject: [Baren 22699] Re: Baren Mail re the spam....I got MSN's hotmail, and whatever its downsides, junk mail improved mightily with the high junk filter. Nothing comes thru to my mail that's not on an approved list, and the junk folder has a LOT less, including fewer of those accoutrement enlarger adverts I had not known for the last 50-odd years that I might need. I had also gotten on one list gawdnowshow that kept sending me an amazing variety of bat-poop several times a day changing one letter in its name, going down the alphabet. I forget who said it now, but do we really think it's advisable to encourage Furry John 'abreast' of anything.....:) best to all -jan ------------------------------ From: "carol wagner" Date: Sun, 7 Sep 2003 10:17:10 -0700 Subject: [Baren 22700] Re: Baren Digest V24 #2364 Georgia, how nifty to hear you will be teaching art and getting paid for it - (Just think of all those prospective printmakers-to-be!, and Sharri, wish I had a penny for each time I forgot which side up to place my chine colle papers...I'm sure it would pay for sending prints to Baren for the calendar-so listen well to Sharri, furryjohn, she knows the score, even if she is lol... Speaking of those prints, Julio...is it all right to send them to you via UPS? The reason I ask is if I can UPS them is that I can do so from work, whereas if I have to go to the Post Office, it will take a few days longer.I am printing like mad today, Sunday, the last 20 of the 40 print edition (August). This has been one of the steepest learning curves I've tackled in some time...reminds me of a poem I read somewhere that goes, "If I could but register/would that I had run away/to be a Master/ere this day" , add to that getting consistency in color, (groan) learning to size paper just right, (Even louder groan), etc, etc. But, warts an all, you're getting them 'cause I promised. About that spam ,Jeanne, I know the feeling ,and Wanda, Postini gets me good about once a week, quarantining posts from Bareners along with Microsoft Security notices and an occasional promo from Barnes and Noble...but at least there are only about a dozen or so, and not hundreds, although there were about thirty or so the first week of that blaster worm infestation. Back to printing, Carol in Sacramento ------------------------------ From: Barbara Mason Date: Sun, 7 Sep 2003 13:58:08 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Baren 22701] Memorial Portfolio, American Print Alliance The American Print Alliance 9-11 Memorial Portfolio is being exhibited in September of 2003 at the Print Arts Northwest Gallery, 416 NW 12th Ave, Portland, OR 97209 I am sure the other venues are named on the Print Alliance site. It travels to Washington State after leaving us. So add this to your resume if you sent in a piece for the memorial exhibit. It is a very impressive site, 440 prints each representing a life lost in the 9-11 tragedy. The prints are hung in sets of 6, strung on line from small nails. They hang floor to ceiling and cover all three walls of the gallery. We have 12' ceilings, so they go way up. Sharri LaPierre hung the show and I am amazed they hung them so high, I forgot to ask her how they did it. I was so pleased to see so much work I recognized, either by image or style. It made me feel pretty good to have so may printmaking friends from all over the world. People come into the gallery and spend quite a while looking at each wall. It is a bit like reading the names on the Viet Nam Memorial, seeing this amazing aray of work all collected together in silent visual tribute. Thanks to all who participated.
