Baren Digest Tuesday, 26 August 2003 Volume 24 : Number 2353 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Sharri LaPierre Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2003 09:46:30 -0700 Subject: [Baren 22624] Re: Baren Digest V24 #2352 Charles, I hope I have the good results you had with your inquiry about the ape sculpture on my Henri Fromm question. So far I have had one response from a woman in France who has referred my question to her son. It is a start! Very interesting letter about Rheinhold. This may not be technically woodblock info, but it was very interesting and informative and does us all good to know this additional bit of art history. Every little bit helps. Carol, I've sized paper both ways: painting it on and dipping it in. Neither is especially easy nor fun to do. It is an exasperating chore at times. I have only sized my own handmade papers and sometimes if they are especially fragile they will fall apart in my hands. You have my sympathy! My hanga experience is definitely a learning one. I thought I'd be clever and print my line block first in umber and then last in sumi. Well, this is not working. I guess I need to dry everything and then rewet it because the pigment from the umber is bleeding when I add the next color. Bummer. I will probably end up reprinting this in oil, but meanwhile I am marching on toward that 9/15 deadline. March, march, march. Somehow I feel oddly out of step. MOMA This message just delivered from Jean: Hi Wanda, Please convey to the Bareneres that the Marc Chagall show at the San Francisco MOMA is a wonderful show. Almost every Chagall painting there is a masterpiece, most I haven't seen before. There are some great etchings and collages in it too. It's all about love and floating six feet off the ground. Thanks for relaying the news about the Musica and Art Festival and the CCSF show. Julio - I'm ready to package my calendar prints to send off - is it okay to trim them to the desired size with no borders (unfortunately I didn't leave room for signature or date, etc. but they are initialed) and how much information do you want re the prints? Also do you want more than the 40 and 45 prints originaly specified for the landscape and smaller desk calendars? I had a great time working at the Poole Printmakers Studio in the UK producing a number of variations of the blocks I cut and found more interesting Japanese papers at a paper place in London. The 3 designs I did there are included in an exhibition presented by Poole Printmakers ("IMPRINT") at the rather bizarre Highcliffe Castle in Dorset -I won't go into detail but suffice to say it's architecture is of very mixed styles but it does have some nice exhibtion spaces. Unfortunately I missed the vernissage which took place 2 days after I returned to Toronto.
