Baren Digest Monday, 28 April 2003 Volume 23 : Number 2205 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Barbara Mason Date: Sun, 27 Apr 2003 09:53:09 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Baren 21377] Eric Gill To everyone living within driving distance of the Oregon Coast,There will be an exhibit of Eric Gill's work at a gallery called Art Space in Bay City, Oregon, it is about 10 miles north of Tillamook. The exhibit of the wood engravings is from April 26 to May 19. I got a card on it and was so surprised as it seemed an odd exhibit for the Oregon Coast. I sure plan to go see it, seeing the real thing is a lot different than seeing it in a book. I think the man was more of a hoot than even his art work. stone carver, type designer, wood cuts and wood engraving and a sex fiend. his type design was a head of his time and his stone carving was way behind his time. given the nature of his wood engravings it is like he took the most unlikely matrix for his style of prints and made it work. and then there was the fact that he was a monk who would have been at home with Hugh Hefner. he had the sexual appetite of a jack rabbit. I my mind he was on of the most complex minds (and bodies I might add) of all the artist of the 20th century. ------------------------------ From: Aqua4tis#aol.com Date: Sun, 27 Apr 2003 23:09:01 EDT Subject: [Baren 21381] Re: Eric Gill john i agree with your description of eric gill i love his work and his biography is memorable to say the least i have been a fan of his work for a long time georga ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V23 #2205 *****************************
