Baren Digest Monday, 31 March 2003 Volume 22 : Number 2177 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "marilynn smih" Date: Sun, 30 Mar 2003 07:15:03 -0800 Subject: [Baren 21167] Re: Baren Digest V22 #2176 Jeanne, my husband is one who reads ads all the time. He found my tiny press in the nickle ads. It is very small but also cost only $50, it is the one I have here in Mexico. He has ran ads when he wanted to find something used and we have always gotten calls. Many people have things and have no idea what they are or what to do with them, you could get really lucky with an ad for a press, you might want to describe a bit what one looks like, people really do not always know what they have. Good luck, Marilynn Smith ------------------------------ From: "Jean Womack" Date: Sun, 30 Mar 2003 09:43:09 -0800 Subject: [Baren 21168] Re: Baren Digest V22 #2176 I was looking at Juan Guerrero's beautiful pictures slowly loading from Mexico and wondering if there was a way to create a web site where you would have a front page and then you could click a button that would enable the rest of the web site to load in the background while you are looking at the first page. Hi folks, someone posted this on another list, thought some of you folks would have a great solution for this. As this is not exactly printing-related, please feel free to respond to me off-list. here's the question: "Hello, I'm writing to ask advice. I will be painting on various sizes of untreated birch. I've been inquiring about a produst to seal the wood to prevent it from warping. Does anyone know of such a product ? When dealing with smaller pieces, 16" x 24," 12' x 14," does creating a frame on the back of the piece assure the lack of warping? Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you." ------------------------------ From: Myron Turner Date: Sun, 30 Mar 2003 14:47:02 -0600 Subject: [Baren 21170] Re: Baren Digest V22 #2176 That kind of thing is done all the time on web sites--animations, for instance, are done that way. Hopefully, Patti Phare-Camp and I can go see this show...Patti? And speaking of loving wood...I have been 'Cherry Picking' archived Baren postings (looking for all wood related items) and found Wanda's vol 13, #1204, Nov 2000 post on Siberian birch from Yuri. Wanda, is he still in business? Can one/ should one, still want some of that Siberian Birch?...I have just cut my first all cherry wood. Oh Boy, Oh Joy! Am I in trouble. I looove this stuff, and yes Maria, I finished cutting the puzzle piece (which will be mailed next Friday) before I started the all cherry piece. My budget is so busted. This wood lust overcomes all my common sense these days. And least I forget, thank you Barbara Mason for that Robert Glenn link, and Charles in Canada, I forgot to acknowledge your comment re Dead Dog Cafe promptly. You wrote. Charles, I could not agree with you more. Not to nit-pick, but it is Tyrus (and don't feel bad as you are far from the first person to make that mistake). I didn't know that show had made it to Gallery W yet. It is a traveling print and drawing show through the Printmakers network of the organization Chrisitians in the Visual Arts (www.civa.org). I recently had a similar surprise when I opened up a prospectus for a show which is part of a larger annual festival held in IL. I received an award for printmaking at the show last year (the image from the Text Messages show). That image is in the prospectus. I guess that is what happens with that little blurb that we agree the work can be used for publicity purposes. I've just gotten some things from McClain's, and have their catalog out. It states that any tool purchased from them can be returned to the Japanese manufacturer for professional sharpening. They receive shipments of new and resharpened tools about 4 times a year. Cost is $4. per tool.
