Baren Digest Thursday, 20 March 2003 Volume 22 : Number 2165 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "marilynn smih" Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2003 07:28:06 -0800 Subject: [Baren 21062] Re: Baren Digest V22 #2163 This is not wood block stuff but rather about artists. I had a bad experience with an "artist" up in todos santos. He made a comment that was obviously full of jealousy for another artist (dear friend 80 year old Charles Stewart). I was appalled. My very American girl friend is representing the jealous artist, so that it brings me close to the situation. I told her he is jealous and pompous and she said all artists are like that! I said they most certainly are not. In my experience artists are the most giving and generous people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. It is most apparant with those on this list. The generosity never ceases to amaze me and for every person who has given any money or free time to this list my thanks to each of you. I learned a bit about those in the background when I coordinated and Barbara, you might get busy and knee deep in stuff and ooops not all is perfect but you work so hard for all of us and Mike was there for me in every way. I know there are others out there lending a willing and helpful hand. I must say that the shopping cart is working really well. I was able to do some cost comparisons very easily with the one you have there. My apologies to the list for such a long post yesterday....sometimes you get to writing and is hard to know when to stop. Short post {;-) I did want to mention a few other folks who I missed yesterday and who have given so much of their time and efforts.... John Center, Carol Lyons, Sharen Linder, Dan Dew, Tyrus Clutter and Georga Garside for their generous work on the 911-Firemen's project and wonderful exhibits. Dean Clark of Graphic Chemical for his paper donations to the group. Rudolph Stalder and Sharri LaPierre who ran the large prints exchange (LPE) and are now organizing LPE II. Gayle Wohlken, Dan Dew, Gregory Robison & Barbara Mason for taking on Baren exchange exhibits in the past year or so. All the exchange coordinators and council members for giving their time and efforts and keeping everything running smooth behind the scenes. I am sure I am forgetting someone, there are many more whose names deserve recognition....but then this would become another long post {;-) ..... thanks to all those who have given back to the group in one way or another during the last five years. Please go to http://barenforum.org/mall/products/hon_baren.html to read about Kikuhide-san's wonderful handmade barens. These are slightly more than our last baren maker in price, but are excellent barens. Dave Just recently visited him and took these photos. Kikuhide-san has actually been with us since the beginning making the Murasaki barens and preparing the 'ategami' sheet that we carry. We will no longer be carrying the barens made by Gosho-san. Anyone who has asked about delivery, please contact me off list and I will be able to give you dates for specific types of barens. Best to all, Barbara - mall manager ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V22 #2165 *****************************
