Their making was not without challenge. This is also my first time printing Moka Hanga. The biggest challenge was ink application. OK I will admit that I did wing it a bit. I used archival wheat paste for my thickener instead of rice, and used gouche for pigment. For brushes I used stiff oil paint flats for transferring the color and a couple of the 'flat type' hanga (I think) spreading brushes as well as a hardware store throw-away natural bristle brush that worked as well or better then the 'flat hanga' brushes. It was very difficult to get a even distribution of color. It seemed like either there were brush stroke marks or if I used more color that it threatened to get mushy and squish into places where it shouldn't. I suspect my paste may have been a bit thick, and my brushes could have been better. Also the color did not penetrate the paper as deeply as I thought it would. I looks like hanga on the front, but I thought you would see it a little color through the back of the paper too. All in all, it was neat to try out this method and a exchange was just the thing to motivate me. Will definitely be trying this again. Cant wait to see every ones prints!
