Actually, if the digital file of the brochure were converted to pdf, you could then email it to requestors and they could print it out themselves from their jet printer. This would save baren $$$ in printing and shipping them! Since it looks like they are not all going to be sold, we can send him a copy for the archives if anyone is willing to give up their portfolio. Mine went to Tyrus Clutter for exhibit in Nampa Idaho at his school but there must be others out there looking for a home. I will be happy to send mine, but it was not complete as a couple of prints were missing when I received it. So if anyone has a complete set and would like to send it to the Spencer, lets do so. The oportunity to be included in the NY Public Library collection was such a wonderful thing, I am so pleased that this happened and it makes me sorry I did not push to send Steve a copy for our archives when he asked about it months ago. Usually I let a piece of work lay around for several months before deciding if it is presentable. My computer seems a bit out of sorts as I can't seem to sign in to Yahoo and eBay properly so messages to the 14 forum all came back undelivered. So I will ask here. I'm not sure what the rates for sending back the exchanges will be so please inform and I will send a check ASAP. Best wishes and much appreciation G.Jarvis ------------------------------ From: "Gillyin Gatto" Date: Mon, 27 Aug 1956 09:09:58 -0700 Subject: [Baren 19198] unwell posts/acacia blocks I think that the Baren response of- no response- to what i would term "unwell posts" from anybody is the best and most productive response it is sometimes rather bizarre to read the digest of three or more different trains of thought going at once and try to thread thru it all anyway getting back to the round, half inch blocks, of acacia that i am working with they are sidegrain planks- planed and cut to be circles of approx 10" with a routed groove just in from the outer edge on one side so thats a fairly large tree that this block has come from it is a deep chocolate brown wood very attractive with open grain from looking at all the google images on ACACIA, and from many of your posts in response, i have a better appreciation of the Tree Acacia it is everywhere very symbolic and recognizable image the tree the cheetahs are always hanging around on that PBS Nature show i am going to carve the male kestrel now in the second block so they'll be a set Gillyin machias maine usa ------------------------------ From: slinders#attbi.com Date: Mon, 16 Sep 2002 10:15:00 -0500 Subject: [Baren 19199] Re: unwell posts/acacia blocks (I agree with Gillyin about the posting.) One of the spectacular parts of the WEN gathering at the Hamilton Type Museum in Two Rivers, WI, this summer was seeing (many) dollies full of hard maple, cut in type-high polished slices, then restacked so they looked like trees that had gone through a butter slicer! Hard to breathe--seeing all of that 'possibility'! The truth is that venting is a necessary thing, otherwise an explosion would take place. I did some venting way back when I first joined. A publisher wanted some FREE work from some of the members. I thought anybody that gives their work away had a bolt loose. I being one of the few members that try and earn a living from these same publishers. So give the people a break that do vent from time to time. It's not so much to put up with, and it is one of the hazards of being in a group.
