Baren Digest Friday, 30 August 2002 Volume 20 : Number 1942 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Charles Morgan Date: Thu, 29 Aug 2002 07:32:52 -0700 Subject: [Baren 19002] Re: Pigments/colours/books I just got a copy of Wilcox's book "Blue and Yellow Don't Make Green" 2ND EDITION. I will not comment on lightfastness ... you can conduct your own tests or rely on published information (e.g. in The Artists Handbook). What I am mostly interested in is how to mix colors, and why mixing some colors does not work very well. I must say that the Wilcox book does a great job in EXPLAINING why mixing some colors works great but mixing others does not. In addition, he includes a long series of exercises which you can do yourself to confirm (or refute) everything he has to say about mixing colors. He also takes into account the difference between opaque and transparent pigments. I would say this is an extremely useful book to help in understanding real color as we encounter it in pigmented paints, no matter what the carrier (water, oil, acrylic). If color mystifies you, as it has me, then you should have a look at this book. Cheers ...... I wonder if you couldn't just use a regular household iron. Has anyone tried this? We used to use xylene, but whew! talk about toxic! It makes sense that heat would transfer a laser image, since heat is used to get it onto the paper in the first place. Dear baren, although this has to do with David Bull, I thought I'd let everybody know. I have received another e-mail under David's name, possibly with a virus (126k, something about Japanese nudity - you know what I mean). It CERTAINLY was not sent by David, but you ought to be careful. Dear David, I think you should talk to some e-genius you may know and figure this out. It's not so much about your public image, which cannot be hurt by such stupid actions, as that it brings to the conclusion that your archives and all about the computer which belong to you are not safe. regards, Dimitris ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V20 #1942 *****************************
