I like the open subject exchange as i can send out work i am currently working on. currently working on an exchange print on 150 copies 31 feels like a cake walk esp when printed on a press. 150 by hand would be impossible even hand inking on a press is a lot of work. john center ------------------------------ From: Ray Hudson Date: Thu, 22 Aug 2002 11:50:07 -0400 Subject: [Baren 18956] class at snow farm Thanks, Julio, for the publicity but unfortunately the class at Snow Farm has been cancelled due to a small enrollment. Here's hoping for a speedy & full recovery. Ray, so sorry to hear the class was cancelled, perhaps down the road there will be another opportunity. I noticed on Snow Farm's website that Matt Brown gave a woodblock class back in the spring. For those that are starting out or wanting to try doing some hand printing with a baren, you can see a short animated clip of how to move the baren across the paper at Matsumura-san's website. Mr. Matsumura is the main supplier for the BarenMall (check the BarenMall link for easy ordering). Don't miss the how-to on the 2001-New Year Card and the cute photo of the shop's entrance. Hey, is that David Bull I see driving away in a truck full of lumber ? If you see something there that you are interested on, but not on the BarenMall supplies list, it could probably be special ordered and delivered thru the usual BarenMall process. Check out those prices on sharkskins...very reasonable considering you don't have to get wet or get near a live shark's teeth ! http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ey5s-iszk/woodlike/index_en.html thanks...Julio ------------------------------ From: slinders#attbi.com Date: Fri, 23 Aug 2002 07:32:59 -0500 Subject: [Baren 18960] BiroBidjan Print Portfolio There is a fine article in today's Arts section of the Chicago Sun-Times titled "Prime Cuts". It details a benefit print portfolio created by a group of 14 Jewish artists from Chicago during the Depression and on the eve of the Holocaust. It was to benefit BiroBidjan, an autonomous Jewish settlement in Siberia. The lone surviving portfolio has been given to an Oakton Community College, Skokie, instructor who has given it to the college. It is an interesting article. I found the criticism of the framing to be of some import to us all as print artists. The second e-address is from the college itself and takes us through the prints and the artists.
