I tried to send some links to some Japanese educational sites with illustrations of black line single block polychrome woodcuts made by some Japanese elementary and junior high students. As these are all in Japanese the writing will come out really wierd on any computer that isn't set up to read Japanese, but usually the photos come out OK. But the body of my last message was gone from the Baren Digest V20#1914 so maybe it was just TOO wierd. I guess I'll have to break down and buy a digital camera. Then I can send some examples of the work of some of the students here. Sorry. That means I need 23 prints from each of you. It sells all sorts of inks and dyes for fabric [ala rag paper]. It's called and can be reached at www.dharmatrading.com ------------------------------ From: "Jean Womack" Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 23:35:46 -0700 Subject: [Baren 18845] White line woodcuts Regarding white-line woodcuts, they are also created by using a scroll-saw, I think it's called, to cut out the pieces as if they were a jig saw puzzle. That way, the pieces can be inked separately and then put back together for the printing. Maybe it is a jig saw that is used to make them. I don't know, I've never tried it--never had the guts to ask my husband for one of those expensive saws just so I could make a couple of prints. I did actually ink up a puzzle made by someone else, and succesfully printed it, however.
