Baren Digest Saturday, 20 July 2002 Volume 20 : Number 1902 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Fri, 19 Jul 2002 12:02:36 -0500 Subject: [Baren 18768] Re: master chinese printmaker, book 07/19/2002 12:04:58 PM I picked up a bargain of a book on one of China's premier master printmakers. Mr. Liao Shiou Ping's (1936- ) work is known around the world and his woodblock prints are eye opening. He has studied in many different countries (USA, Japan, etc) lived and taught printmaking in the US for many years till 1973 and was at the Hayters' Atelier 17 in the 60's. He went back to China/Taiwan in 1973 where he's held a number of teaching positions and become a champion for printmaking. Browsing thru this book I am simply overwhelm by the beauty of the work. Bordering on the abstract, his series work reminds me a lot of some of the prints that barener April Vollmer is currently doing. The book is called "Master Printmaking - A Retrospective of Liao Shiou Ping's Works" and was published recently by the Taiwan National Museum of History to commemorate the artist exhibit in that country. It is beautifully illustrated with hundreds of color images of the prints, many photographs of the artist and many foldout sections. Written in both Chinese and English (200 pages), it is possibly one of the nicest made art books I have seen in quite a while. I am almost ashame to admit that I only paid $2.00 for this book.... To learn more and see some of the work online: http://www.123soho.com/artist/shiouping_liao/body.html thanks.....Julio Rodriguez (Skokie, Illinois) ------------------------------ From: "Jean Womack" Date: Fri, 19 Jul 2002 16:54:47 -0700 Subject: [Baren 18769] Re: Baren Digest V20 #1901 Maria and Frank, did you get the big print I sent to you in the mail?
