Baren Digest Tuesday, 7 May 2002 Volume 19 : Number 1821 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Mike Lyon Date: Mon, 06 May 2002 10:12:41 -0500 Subject: [Baren 18012] Re: Virus alert Bill, I am SO sorry to hear this! I am being absolutely inundated with virus's and related emails, too! After a similar experience to yours about a year ago, I have religiously kept my anti-virus software up to date (I use Norton on one machine and McAfee's Virus Scan On-Line on the other), and although I have received more than 200 emailed computer viruses this year, the anti-virus scanners catch them and 'cure' them on the way in. This past week I have received a zillion KLES related emails -- someone(s) (I can't figure out who) is infected with KLES which is a nasty 'worm' which assumes alias'es when propagating. So my email address appears in the 'errors-to' section of these emails, many of which come with copies of KLES attached and it is driving me to distraction! When my drive crashed a year ago, I used Drive-Savers (800) 440-1904 to recover the data. It cost a bit over $100 for them to look at the drive to determine whether they could recover it or not, and another several hundred dollars to recover it, but they did a GREAT job and I got back ALL my data (on two CDs). They were very fast, too. Might be a less expensive option for you. Mike At 11:38 AM 5/4/2002 -0700, you wrote: >I was gullible when a message came to me from an old friend. Very weird and very annoying. The virus has not gotten into the computer as far as I know - the only similarity between messages is that they all have attachments. Be careful. I'll offer an extra bedroom (quite small) and cots August 9 &10 for anyone who wants to stay over. There's a motel nearby, but no camping in the area, unfortunately. There are hostels in San Francisco and Marin and camping in Olema, near Point Reyes (about an hour from here). Maybe private camping in the area, but I don't know about it. It will be great to see you again, April! Howard and I will be traveling up to Vancouver after school is out and hope to visit Barbara Mason and anyone else on the coast. Please let me know if I can visit you. Jean ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V19 #1821 *****************************
