She is indeed a GREAT HOSTESS. We had the pleasure of a visit last year. I'll be giving another class at Kala August 10 and 11, and could meet up with Jean/Bay Area Barener's around that date. I'll be driving down to Santa Cruz to see my parents, so I don't have a lot of time, but do let me know about your plans for meeting. best, April www.aprilvollmer.com ------------------------------ From: "Jean Womack" Date: Sat, 4 May 2002 08:23:18 -0700 Subject: [Baren 18007] Re: Baren Digest V19 #1818 Bea et al, Golly, printing is precisely where I need help! I have a severe case of the blobbies. They come out of remission when I am supposed to do a public print demonstration. I hope Ruth has room for me in July. This working full time stuff really cuts down on the printmaking opportunities. I'm sorta jealous. On the other hand, the kids are really cute: they bring out my old mothering instincts. Maybe I'll break away from landscapes for awhile and do some people prints. I don't need to take photos for that. There are plenty of good kid pics in the Mervyn's ads. Also, I bought a How To Draw Manga book on EBay. You too can draw a snarling little critter. Ugh! My name is Suzi Sutherland-Martin. I'm friends with Wanda Robertson and Barbara Mason, that's how I heard about baren. I've been looking at their prints from exchanges for a while now and it looks like a lot of fun to join in. I've taken two Japanese Woodcut workshops here in Portland, but am still really a lino block person. Haven't really learned how to sharpen my tools, as it just never seems necessary when I stick to linoleum blocks. I aspire to make prints like Wanda's some day, though! Even though the subject line was weird, I fell for it. The result-a total wipeout of my hard drive, and will cost almost $3000 to restore two years work--a great amount because I had not been religious in my backing-up everyday. I confess I had been powering forward with my newfound ability to build DVDs of short, bite-sized demos and lengthy documentaries from my video archives as well as up to the minute, literally, documentation of my FOlio #13 "Music" theme print titled "Homage to Hayter." I don't think I spread the virus further, but in case you get a message from ritchie@seanet.com and it looks more weird than my usual, don't open it. Delete it, even if you save it to a floppy. This is a commong type of virus--they've almost stopped naming them because there is an average of one new virus a day. Now I'm trying to think of a fundraiser, though I don't deserve any help. I should'a been backing up all the time. The good thing is I think it will actually give me more time to work on my Music print and some book projects this month. Be warned. ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V19 #1819 *****************************
